My father in law has breed GSPs and E Setters for years, but has quit due to 90% travel for work. I should have jumped on one when I had the chance. I'm not looking for a hunter, but instead a runt to live inside as a family pet. A puppy is wanted to make acclimating to a household with another mixed breed small dog, cat and two year old kid. I don't need papers, and a fixed dog is not a problem.

Anyone have a bead on the special dog I'm looking for?

Have you looked at GSP Rescue? I believe they have a N.TX.
chapter. Bob

I have. The youngest listed is 10 months right now. I really want one younger to socialize with the other house animals/kiddo.

The wifey is using the "trump card" now and wants an English Setter instead. We are in a race. Winner gets pick up duty.

Just my thoughts here, but do puppy needle teeth and 2 yr. old
baby flesh equate to a pleasant bonding?
In my experience a dog of any age reacts to anyone who shows affection, in kind.
A dog known to get along with cats or other dogs in one
home will do so in another. YMMV. Bob

The wifey used her daughterly charms to convince her father to breed one more litter. We have to wait til May '09, but we will have a GSP from trial dog lineage (Dixie Land).

You might be right, but I'd really prefer to socialize the dog while he/she is very young. Mostly for the cat's sake. Our mongrel is very submissive. Our two year old son will learn not to pull ears after a nip or two. At least the cat has rear claws.

Now, I need a good GSP name.

The wife just called back to inform me of a conversation she just had with her father....we are just a kennel. The FIL wants rights. I thought a recent court decision stated Grand Parents don't have rights.

The dog will be a hunter. Perhaps I will get to chase quail again. I was "banned" several years ago after peppering FIL's truck from a hun'erd yards.

Looks like the name "Chaney" is out the window.
