Picked up a nib Rem m7 CDL in .308 with iron sights this weekend. Got the thing for $650
I have rings and bases for it, and a ton of ammo to shoot through it.
It wasn't on my to get list but though it was a nice little gun for the money. Not sure what to use for glass yet. Might go with a leupy 3x9 compact. Will get VXIII 2.5-8 if I can afford it.

Does the .308 normally come with irons?

Think it was Elliot brothers that had some spec run M7 CDLs made with sights.

Model 7's are one of my favorite rifles. I have MS's in .308 and 250 Savage, CDL in .223, early M7 in .223, early M7 in .243. I have also had a .260 and 7/08. Might, said might try one in 300 RSUM.

I'm not sure if they did on a regular basis or not.I remember seeing some in a .243 last year or the year before. I bought the gun at gander mt. so who ever they get their special order guns from I guess.
Don't really need the irons, but they are there if I do. I will sight it in on the irons while I save for the scope. I have a few boxes of Rem green box 180gr RN to run through it. Hopefully they shoot well, that is what I'd like to run the majority of the time. I think it will be my short range, sneak and peak type rifle.

Sheak and Peak???? That should be a 400 yard critter slayer, if need be don't have many places where I hunt that I could shoot 100yds let alone 400. It just seems this rifle was made for still hunting. granted, it will be in a stand most of the time. Tom

Don't get the 3x9 Compact. The regular VX-II 2-7x33 is a better all around scope with much longer and more flexible eye relief, yet it's still quite trim. It's about a C-note less than the 2.5-8 too.

Agreed ... have a Cabela's Alaskan Guide 2-7x32 on Doecamper's M7 in Dednutz Xtra Lows at the moment. Trim little scopes go very well on the M7. One note about the Dednutz Xtra Lows on a M7... they are about 3 mm lower than Talley lows but still allow a 6x42 Sightron S2 to clear the barrel should one want to use a larger scope. The 6x42 didn't look too huge when it was on the rig either. GE

The VXII 2-7 is my go to scope on most of my stuff. Why is the VXII 2-7 a better all around scope, arn't they pretty much the same size?
I guess the 2x7 is still in the running and will probably be even more so becacue it IS a "c" note cheaper. I just alway liked the VXIII 2.5-8. It really will come down to cost. I know teh VXII is a great scope.

The "better all around" was in comparison to the Compact 3-9 for the eye relief reasons.
The 2.5-8 is great, just more money.

I ment in comparasion to the compact. Thanks. The 2-7x33 seems to be just the right size for everything, which is why I probably have more than one of them.
I have one in a Nikon prostaff too. It is on my .243 hawkeye. It is not even close in comparassion to the leupold VXII, or even VXI for that matter. It too will be replaced but...first things first.

GE,
any idea who makes the Alaskan Guide scopes for Cabela's? How do you like it, how has it held up?
