Personally I think that if she is picked, it would be a stroke of genius (albeit a purely cynical political stroke. But I kind of appreciate that.)

Actually, she was indicted in 1993 and went to trial. The judge ruled just about all the DA's evidence against inadmissable and then instructed the jury to find her "not guilty". They did. There were allegations of some hanky panky on that deal. Or, of course, the case against her could just have been complete BS.
