What's everyone using for preventing/repairing worn or cut pads on their dogs feet?

Cabelas has a few products

Anyone use one of these? Does the "toughening up" products really work w/o hurting the dog?

My Beagle loves exercise, but rocky ground and continuous walks on pavement are hard on her pads. Once they're worn thin, they take a while to heal and are more prone to wearing through again. If there's also a product that could keep her from licking off the medication I'd appreciate the lead.
Thanks

I`ve used Tuf-Foot on my hounds for years. They squirm a little when you apply it to open wounds, because of the alcohol. I had a a big Black and Tan, that would roll his lips back every time I approached him with a bottle of Blue Lotion, Tuf-Foot, or nail clippers. Never bit me though.
I don`t run a hound that has a sliced pad, but pads with white spots or not, get a coating periodically, depending on how often I run them.

Thanks for the reply. I looked at a bottle while at Cableas today, and noticed that it's fit to use on humans too. My pup lives in the house, so my only reason for not buying a bottle was a fear of a stained-up house. Do your dogs try to lick it off, or is it bitter enough they leave it alone?

Some will, and some won`t. Heck I once had a big cross bred hound, that would kill and eat a skunk. No tellin how tight their brains are screwed in.

That must have been quite a dog! grin

I'll try a bottle. My new LCS catalog came today and Tuf-Foot is $3 cheaper than Cabelas. It'll give me an excuse to order some other things too. smile

Thanks again.
