First, I'm not the best shot in the world, though I do pretty well with hunting rifles. I recently bought a Tikka T-3 in 243 Winchester, and I'm amazed at how well it shoots. On a calm day and with a 20X Unertl scope, It will shoot groups of 1 1/2 to 2 inches at 300 yards. I think it might do better with a better shooter to milk it out. Now, the question. What do you guys expect from an out-of-box sporting rifle as far as accuracy. Thanks,
Wayne

I would say you have excelled beyond the normal hunting rifle accuracy whether out of the box or bedded. My 300 WSM Tikka T3 at 300 yards has fired several different 5 shot groups into 2" to 3". My Rem 700 SPS has been bedded and it can't do that. It will put 5 shots into about 4" at 300 yards.

Well seeing how this is the Competitive Shooting Forum..................... 1/2 MOA or better (out to 300 yards, the rest is my job ) for my use.

Those Tikkas are quite irritating. I have a T-3 .270 shooting a tad over 1/2 moa to 300yards with Remington corelockt factory stuff. It takes Gold metal match or carefull handloads to beat it with my blueprinted M700 in .308.
I still cant wait to play with some reloads on the Tikka to see how it will really do.
Hunt hard, kill clean, waste nothing and offer no apologies.

I expect 1 to 2 moa out of the box with the best factory ammo, but I won't keep a bolt gun that won't average the following with bedding/handloads/trigger:
- Varmint rifle: 1/2 MOA - 27 to 30 cal, 3/4 MOA with premium hunting bullets - 338 - 375 bore: 1 MOA with premium hunting bullets - 416 & up: 1.5 MOA with premium hunting bullets

I use/have used a couple of factory rifles in competition. My 700VS (.223) will agg in the low to mid .3's in group shoots, have shot a 250 score (practice match) in score shooting. Last year my son a .289" group with it in a match (moving backers verified he fired 5 shots).
I've used my Winchester Stealth in F-Class since it was new. My best score at 600 yards with the new targets has been a 197 for a 20 shot string. Thinkin someone who actually knew how to drive it wouldn't have any problem shooting a 200 score.

Given the right ammo, and that might be handloads, I think most of them these days are MOA or just under capable.

Have a Savage 12F 6.5-284 Norma out of the box (250 rounds to work up the load) have shot just under .4 at 200 yards.139gr. Lapua @ 3070fps. I was never a Savage guy until this rifle gave out of the box a new meaning.

1/2" or better at 100 yards.
By the way, in case you missed it, Jeremiah was a bullfrog.
