I'm planning to build a 22-250 on a Model 70 action for target and (occasional) field use. For target shooting I plan to use the 69 Sierra Matchking and the 60gn Nosler Partition for hunting. Is 1 in 12 a fast enough twist?

I believe it is too slow for the 69 gr bullet. Should work with a 60.

If only shooting the 69 smk and shorter bullets go 9 twist. The 69smk was made for 9 twist barrels. If wanting to try any of the vld 75grain and up bullets go 8 twist. The 8 twist will shoot the 69smk fine as well.

If you already have the 12 twist I would shoot the 52 amax or sierra target bullets and the 53 tsx for hunting.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I got in touch with the barrel supplier and he also advised that I'll need 1 in 10 for the 69gn projectiles.

My 22-250 is a 1-12 twist, and doesn't shoot bullets over 60 grains at all. But, it's hell with 55 grain bullets!!!!

Mine is a 12 twist also, and it shoots the 55gr Bergers like they were made for each other.
