Got out one day while on leave, finally bump a bull right before dark. Didn't get an arrow off. It was great getting out in beautiful country with no stress.

I'm back in the Helmand Provience of Afghanistan. I only had the one day to elk hunt. Went out one other morning and came close to getting an arrow off on a forky. I'm planning on hunting my arse off next year.

Glad to see you could at least get out for 1 day. Be careful in Afghanistan maybe you can take your bow and GiG a few rag-heads to stay in tune.

Rogue: Awesome, glad you got out to enjoy the woods !

I just got back to the valley from the Desolation unit. Success was very poor. Too hot and the elk were not very vocal.
We got some bugles both before dawn, after hiking in and after dark on the way out of the woods. I know of one 6x6 hit and lost. A cow harvested. This in my area. A big 6x7 was taken out next to my brothers camp in the Silvies.
Yellow jackets were everywhere !! Calls from friends / relatives from all over Or. were telling me the same. Hopefully the last week will be better.

Stay safe - hurry home.
