Last year the Mearns hatch and hunt was excellent. With a reasonable bird hold over and a good hatch this year could be as good or better. Does anyone have hunt survey information?

The mearns looks FANTASTIC! I have been doing some scouting for my rifle coues tag. Went and poked around in some high country a couple of times. Have seen no less than 6 coveys, each day all from the road.

I snapped this photo while walking in on a covey.

Az game and fish says it should be a good year. This summer's rains were great for S. Az.

Great pics Casey!

I went with my older friend Don P. last season, it was my first time. We went out 21 times and I still haven't seen all of his spots! Don has been hunting mearns since the state allowed hunting in the 60s. Couldn't ask for a better hunting companion and mentor.

My two GWPs are fully trained mearns hunters, in great shape and now entering the prime of their lives. Can't wait to go.

For years Don has hunted deer with us. When we were lucky to get a late hunt, he wanted to get any buck right away so he could go back hunting mearns . I never understood it till last year.

Rick B. if you read this, the invitation still stands to hunt with us during your Christmas break. I'll PM you later in the season with details.

Thanks for the great pic! Good report. Luv that grass! What county / zip code was that? I'm lucky if I get out 6 days. I could overdose on 21!

I cant remember the particulars about that bird, but I have seen alot of good size coveys this summer. I had a male and a female the other day that were trying to distract me from their clutch. It was pretty entertaining.
