After 25 years without a SLR camera I purchased a Rebel XTI this spring and have enjoyed reacquainting myself with photography. I've purchased a Canon 70-200 2.8 L IS and a Tokina 12-24 lens and now I'm looking to replace the EFS 18-55 kit lens. I'm stuck between the Canon 24-70 and the Canon 17-55 lens. Price is roughly the same so that is not much of a consideration. I would imagine that this lens will be on my XTI body 80% of the time so I want to make the best choice possible. I have no specialized area of photography, just enjoy various areas....travel, sports, family, wildlife, landscapes, ect. Any recommendations or opinions? I do intend on completing my basic lens kit with the addition of a set of Kenko tubes sometime in the near future.

Thanks,
Jeff M.
