I am working with two loads for long range deer hunting with my 7-08. My shots this year will be limited to 400 yards but I'm working to stretch that soon. 600 yard shooting was the goal for this rifle and thats probably as far as I will be shooting in the future.
The two loads are the 150gr SMK at 2840fps and the 168gr Berger at 2630fps. The SMK has the best grouping, but both are well under MOA. Out to 600 yards, is there any practicle difference between the two? At what point does slower and heavier start to have an advantage over the faster, lighter bullet?

Tried it. Got better accuracy from the other two.

Out of curiosity, and for the sake of thinking outside the box, did you try the 120 grain ballistic tip? That little dude has a real high BC for it's weight, so it launches fast and holds velocity surprisingly well. I think it'd be worth running the numbers on to see if it might be even better than the two choices you listed.
It shot real well in a couple rifles for me, one a Sendero in the STW, the other a 20" barreled stainless Seven in 7mm-08.

I'd also be thinking on the 160AB for a long-range hunting bullet and I run them in a 7mmRM. The 162 A-max appears to be the ultimate fun bullet, but it would probably kill a whitetail too.
Now with even more aplomb

The 150 has .25 MOA better at 600 14.25 MOA versus 14.50 for the 168 but the 168 has 330lbs more energy at 600 and the windage correction for the 168 is 3.50 MOA versus 5.25 MOA for the 150 at 600 I would go with the 168.

Me, I'd be working with the 150 NBT first off and or the 150 SMK. I've used both of them quite a bit out of my 7 Mashburn Super for deer/elkl/lopes at range.

Out of my 7mag I shoot 162gr. A-maxs for fun and 160gr. Accubonds for hunting, love those bullets at those velocities but I havent tried them in the 7-08 yet. I'm going to have to give them a go. The 120gr. NBT's shoot great out of my 7-08 but they suck in the wind.

For my anal self then... I was thinking of trying something other than tsx, IE Etips at 150... any thoughts? Though I'd really like the Etip BC but in a 170ish grain offering...7x300

kodiak, Have you heard of GS Custom Bullets? ( http://gscustom.co.za/ ) They make a High Velocity monolithic bullet which might suit your purpose very well. Thomas

For those distances have you tried the new 140 Berger?

I think the 140VLD(.509BC) and a 7-08 would go together nicely.
