You might have read my thread Blacktail 892 yards well today my son went hunting and I went with him my job was to be the spotter. And we spotted a very nice Buck big three or four point was hard to tell for sure but definitely bigger than my Buck I got.
Anyways ranged him at 732 yards got the rifle all set up... but he just wouldn�t give a shot to the kid worth taking, off angled up thought the ribs, or ass shots the Buck seemed to be very uneasy and just wouldn�t hang to long in one spot and give him the prefect broad side shot that we were looking for with all the brush and reprod he would appear and disappear he ended up going in behind some thick reprod and we assumed he laid down as there didn't seem to be any way he dould have got out of that spot without being seen. ranged it at that spot 768 yards.
The moral of this story the Buck lives for another day will try again tomorrow and the true long-range hunters don�t just spray lead around they wait for the prefect shot.

Selmer It doesn't have to do with ethics, it has to do with making a clean shot on an animal to minimize meat damage.

I was joking (and oh, what a FUNNY joke it was! I botched my shot on my blacktail this year and shot it in the ass (in the thick stuff at 40 yards). Joecool knew it so hence the joke. FWIW shooting a deer in the ass is a bad, bad thing to do.

Since I cut this one up myself, I learnt my lesson BIG TIME. What a mess. I'm not sure there's a WORSE place the shoot a deer than right through the hip ball.

Had a buddy hit one in the ass one time when I was with him many years ago (I think I was 18) trying to slid one up through the ribs I decided that wasn�t for me. Damn blew up the gut got into the busted up ham what mess.

A buddy of mine shot one up the chute last year, it was a doe he killed for a friend who wanted a deer. I don't know why he chose to make that shot, but he did (30-06 180Corelokt). The guy later told him that there wasn't hardly anything left that was fit to eat after the bullet bloodshot the hams and splintered the spine all through the straps.....
Now with even more aplomb
