They are having a gas war about 20 miles south of me. Gas is going for $2.65 a gallon. Here in Ellisville it is $3.15. There is one station that takes cash only that is making the others bring down their prices. A lot of stations were geting slammed in the press about the variations in price from one station to the next, some with the same owners. Price would fluctuate 0.40. Traffic is backed up on Hwy 49, and I made it a point to fill up while I was in Hattiesburg yesterday. I doubt that they would sell at a loss, so I think that some gouging has been going on by the station owners.

How can there be a gas war when everything I hear is that the gas station makes only a few cents per gallon?

I remember gas wars back in the '60s when one station would have it for 20 cents and another would drop to 19 cents.

We can never have a gas war where I live. One refinery supplies all the gas stations, and they're all within a penny per gallon.

I think I have the cheapest gas in the country. Living across the border from Ethan isn't so bad.

If there is a 0.40 difference in stations less than 2 miles apart then somebody is making more than a few pennies per gallon, especially when the stations have the same owner.

A few years ago when gasoline was selling for a decent price gas wars were not uncommon. However, I do remember a bumper sticker that told it all.

" THE GAS WAR IS OVER; GAS WON!"

And looks like that is still true today.
