optically and ruggedness
I'm in the market for a new scope and have it narrowed to a 3-9VXII with lr reticle or a 3-9 nikon omega(I'm told buckmaster optics)with ranging reticle.
Anyone have experience with these scopes?
I will be mounting one of these on a 338 wm.

I have both.I never used the Omega. The VXII I have on my Swede T3.I did have the Omega mounted on my T3.The Omega looked good if not better.I never did check them SXS.I would say the Leupold's optics are a little better, never checked in low light where the Lupy shines. The eye relief on the Omega is longer than the Leupold. The BDC reticle on the Omega is really for muzzel loaders. Not really like a ballistic plex. It's based on A charge of A bullet in A gun.
My Omega is Nicoplex standard duplex.I don't use it so if your looking for one just ask we can work something out. It's as-new in box.

Sorry,I drank the Sako-Aid.My opinion may be biased.

I'd not run an Elite on a 338.

Leupold is hard to beat especially on kickers.

BZZZTT! WRONG!

The Omega has 5 inches of eye relief. And it is constant eye relief. The Big L claims 3.7-4.7 inches. You will only get the 4.7 inches at 3x. I have an Omega, and it really is a full 5 inches that doesn't change from low to high power.

Haven't had the two side by side either, but I think it will be close optically. The 5 inch eye relief is what would decide it for me. Nikon claims the Omega is up to heavy and sharp recoil. Nikon has improved their Buckmaster/Omega coatings in the last couple years. Previously the VXII had better coatings, not so sure they do now. If the VXII has better coatings it likely is a much smaller difference than previously.

My bad, I read Buckmaster not Omega. We talking muzzleloaders or medium bore magnums?

As far as reticles go it is a no brainer! The LR reticle is awesome! It is very clean but useful, not in the way like others.

It isn't energy that kills. It's holes!

May want to check at what yardage the parallax is set for on the Omega.
Since the Omega is advertised as a muzzel loader scope, it's parallax may be set for 75 yards rather than the stand 150 yards.

The parallax setting on the Omega is 100 yards.

BTW, the Omega can be had with the BDC reticule.
