The question is:

What would you suggest for 7mm projectiles fired at pronghorn?
I have two rifles in 7mm Rem.Mag., which will be fine if using lighter bullets.
The rifles are: Remington 700 BDL and Browning BAR MkII BOSS.
I was thinking of something in the 120-140gr. range, but I'd like some suggestions as to brand and style.
My oldest daughter will be joining me on this hunt next year sometime and we're looking forward to planning things out.
Thanks for your help, guys.

That sounds like a good start.

I have some Barnes Originals in 7mm --- 195-gr.~!
Saving those for a different hunt...

Won't matter really. Just don't hit them in any large bones and avoid raking shots. Antelope are easy to put down but also easy to tear up badly.

I shot two with the 7 RM and 160 gr. Sierra Game Kings. One at 50 yds. and the other at 301 yds. Performance was identical and perfect.

I'm currently leaning toward the lighter 7mm weights and would load light for my daughter... but it "won't matter really".

Mike, I've taken a lot of lopes with the 7 Rem and my 7 Mashburn Super.

I've used the 120 TSX, 130 SMK, 139 Horn flat base, 140 NBT, 150 NBT, 150 SMK, 154 Horn, 160 Noz, 160 Speer BT, 160 Sierra (both HP and SP), the 175 Horn,, 175 Noz and a few more I have no doubt.

The 150 NBT has been my go to bullet for a long time but I'd have no problemo running R22 and either the 120 NBT or the 120 TSX as a dedicated lope/yote rig either.

When I ran the 7 mag as my only gun, I had two loads. One used the 130 Speer Boattail (IMR 4350) and one used the 160 Partition (IMR 4831). Those would cover anything you need to do.

utah: which of those two would you use for deer (I'm assuminog we are speaking of mulies, based on your name). Just wondering if that 130gr might be a little soft for close up shots from a 7Mag. thanks for sharing your experience.

The 140 Ballistic Tip under 71 grs of RL19 and 215's in you BDL will give you 3300 fps give or take, been using this load for several years now and it is a flat shooter and very accurate in the 6 or 7 BDL's we use it in, terrific long range deer medicine but not a close range load, in fact there aren't many cup n core loads that are, I load 160 Partitions for work in the woods or brush, of course this load is over the manuals so work your way up, I used to shoot my 7STW at @ 3500 with the 150 B-tip but got tired of all the bang for so little improvement in drop

Son-in-Law has a 7mag that likes 160 Accubonds so that is what he took last year. I was really surprised at how clean a job it did on a frontal quartering shot.

I wouldn't have any trouble at all using that 130 Speer on mule deer, in fact did so many times. I wasn't pushing it super fast, my notes show it going 3225 fps. That puts it in .270 Win +P territory. That bullet was my deer and antelope load, and the Partitions were the elk load.

utah: Glad to hear that it performs well at 3200+. Never used it myself, but have hear from a lot of folks that it is great for deer in the 7-08 or 7X57. Just never hear of it being used at those speeds. thanks

My favorite all around bullet in 7 Rem mag is the 140 Partition, but for smaller soft-skinned game at long(er) distance the Hornady 162 BTSP Interlock (not Interbond) is without peer...

It got a little sideways pointed at DEER, but thanks anyway, guys!
I'll be looking into the 120 projecTILE's and possibly the 150 Scirocco.
I kinda favor the Barnes and Swift offerings.

I would say you won't have to figure on tracking if you let the air out of one with a 120 grain Nosler BT.
