I'am thinking about putting a scope on my GP 100 Ruger, It's a stainless 6 inch. Problem is all the mounts I've found for it require that you remove the rear site. I dont want to lose the ability to remove scope and use sites if nessecary. I've been thinking about using a Marlin scope base and drilling the rib to match screw holes. It will have to over lap the frame some 1-1.5 inches. Should I also drill and tap frame or will this over hang be sturdy enough with just 4 screws in the rib. I'll have to mill the base a little to make the over hang as the frame is about .006 higher than the rib. Any input good or bad Thanks

The over hang should not be a problem. I have of late set up several of the Taurus Tracker and Raging series revolvers from .17 to the Raging Bull 454 Casaul, their rail leaves the rear 1 1/2- 2 inches unsupported and they seem to be doing fine, no negative feedback to date. The only place these are in contact is on the rib, ther is at least a 1/16th space betwen the mount and the frame over the cylinder.

Thanks for the reply. The Taurus looks good.
Thanks again
