Here is my tip of the day:
1. carefully remove the metal forearm tip on your mannlicher stocked Ruger 77 RSI.
2. after carefully removing the metal forearm tip, loosen the action screws, enough so that you can raise the barrel at least 1/4".
3. install a neoprene "O" ring around the barrel, where the barrel and forearm tip would meet. Tighten the action screws. Reinstall the forearm tip.
The soft neoprene "O" ring will cushion the contact between the barrel and the forearm tip. Being made of soft neoprene, the "O" ring will compress, but it will keep the barrel and stock from touching. If your barrel and stock touch anywhere, other than at the forearm tip, you can use another small diameter "O" ring to keep the barrel in the center of the barrel channel.
I have used this method on several mannlicher stocked rifles and find that it work more often then not. You must use neoprene, not rubber, as the rubbber is generally too hard/stiff to cushion the contact point. That said, don't expect a Ruger 77 RSI to be a tack driver, as anything better than 1.5 MOA is probably about as good as you're likely to get.
