I seen on guns and ammo the other night where Marlin and hornady have teamed up again to come out with a .338. They were shooting one on the show and said it was a prototype and that hornady hasn't even headstamped the brass yet. Anybody know anything about this or maybe when it will be out..

Hornady really needs to get these bullets to the handloaders or all these new calibers may be for naught!!!

I think this is going to be a winner.
I also feel it will renew intrest in the 356 win.

If the cartridge is based on the 375 Steyr case and using the 24 barrel the 338 Marlin Express will be equal to the 356 Winchester out to 200 yards.
The pressure limitations due to the use of the Marlin 336 action will prevent the 338 ME from exceeding the capabilities of the 356 Winchester by any measurable amount.
I have a 356 Winchester and I enjoy loading for and shooting it. The real difference between the two cartridges is USRA-Winchester and for all practical purposes the 356 Winchester cartridge are gone and the 338 ME is in production now. If you dont already have a 356 Winchester, the 338 Marlin Express is the next best thing.

The only 2 big problems with the 338 Marlin is the powder Hornaday uses ...will it ever be avilable for handloaders ?
bullet selection for the 338 Marlin ?

I am pretty indifferent about the 338. I wouldn't mind a new run of 356win.

I would be interested in the 338ME. This cartridge will be relatively flat (in lever actions terms, anyway) and will have roughly the same energy as a factory loaded 30-06. Good combination.

I'd rather a 356 again, at least there are available bullets.

As accurate as the 308MX is with factory ammo I don't mind if I never have to reload for it. Plus at roughly $22-$25 per box( when I bought it) that is cheap compared to some factory ammo!

Amen to that. I'm getting my 308MX ready for a late season elk hunt and when I took it to the range on Wednesday the first three shots measured .452". Just not worth trying to improve on that.

Buckeye - Hornady is releasing the Leverevolution bullets (called an FTX, and a new one called a GMX (for Gilding Metal eXpanding); a monolithic gilding metal bullet with the soft-tip.

FTX's will initially be in .30, .35, .44, .45 and 50 calibers. GMX's will be in .270, 7mm, .30 and .338 calibers. This should make things interesting.

Is there an on-line link to that? I searched the Mid South site and didn't come up with anything.

On another note - oh geez! If they're really producing the brass for handloaders then there goes my last excuse for not buying a 336 MX! wink

So it looks like a guy can get new brass for the .308 ME, and Ruger is coming out with a .44 Special Flat top all just after Christmas. Oh well, I ain't maxed out my credit card yet.

It is in the New Inventory items link.
Here is the link to the 308ME brass - .62 each, not too bad to start.
