This weekend was youth season and my brother went out with some relatives. Hunted all day but only saw a few does. Then on the hike back out they spotted this guy. He had them pegged and was just watching from about 90yards. However they couldnt see horns, just a large deer. Up comes the gun and the scopes fogged over from being tucked up in his armpit. Then my uncle rounds up a pair of binoculars and see's it all. "Shoot gawddamnit shoot. You dont need to know how big it is just shoot!!!!!!!!!!" They got the fog wiped away and he managed to drop one in the shoulders. Made it about 20 yards before it gave it up. So he and the 90lb cousin got to drag the critter while my uncle had the packs and rifle. That buck worked them over and ran the lil cousin over once on a downhill, puncturing his azz with a tine in the process Anyways nuff's enough. Not to shabby of a buck. Let alone his first deer. Funny part of it is, is that he doesnt realize what kinda buck this is. I hope he doesnt go expecting one like this next year. A rather odd ball 4x4 with eye guards. Looks like an old azz buck to me.The area he was in is all blacktails, No Benchlegs An for the gurus twas a 721 remington 30-06 with either 180gr Cor-lokts or 180gr Power Points. He had both with him so I dunno. A troublesome group to say the least. He's on the right. How many 16year olds can grow a beard like that I dunno whats up with him here

An odd dandy, to be sure.
Seem to be some other antlers in one of those pics. More success that day?

Nice buck, tell him congrats.........I hear what your saying on the "I hope he doesnt go expecting one like this next year." thing. I have to say that rack resembles a whitetails rack too.

No Blaine it wasnt near eagle point, This was quite a ways back in the hills.
Mac, it was the only buck seen that day. The extras you see were an old rack that was broguht out for comparrison
Rogue I think this season is a new thing. Its just 2 days tacked on to the end of general season. No special tag required.
Folks are talkin about getting it stuffed. Any suggestions for a local taxidermist?

Buddy of mine and his Dad are big fans of Stallsworth's Taxidermy outside Rogue River, he's had two Elk, several deer, a mountain goat, an antelope and a bear rug made by Stallsworth's and they're all pretty good mounts. Stopped by his shop about a month ago to check on some Elk mounts and he was finishing up a large Kudu head, nice guy and his work looks good.

I always ask about Eagle Point because in 1979 during archery season, hunting in that area (Salt Fork Rd?), I saw the biggest deer I have ever seen in the woods and it had an antler configuration like your brothers.

Salt Creek road? I've seen some dandys up there and the family has gotten a few outta it. It also gets hit VERY VERY hard. And has ben over-ran by quads. I rarely go there even in the off season.
The Buck population around Eagle Point took one hell of a hit 2005-2006. My graduating class was rather handy with spotlights. Eventually it caught up with them but they got away with a slap on the hand.
Oh yea, Its 23 1/2" wide

I know it waders. He still doesnt understand why the family and a few friends are getting all excited about it. Yesterday was the 3rd day he had hunted this season!! And besides this the only thing he has gotten was a turkey.
Blacktail, it was kinda scary as he talks with his hands and he's holding that scalpel. Made ya take a step back. He explained how he could mount the horns from last years buck using a different hide. Im very very tempted
