My stainless Ruger was to shiney for varmits so I try scotch brite pads still to brite, Bead blasting, It was'nt shiney but it was brite white. So I desided to use acid. Sounds scary dont it ? I played around with several different types of acid and desided to use Aqua- Regia. This is wicked stuff in full strength and will eat some synthetics. In the old days they mixed it with iron shaving to rust blue guns. It is a mixture of Hydrochloric acid and Nitric acid. I deluded it with water about 50% I then took my scope rings degreased them with alcohol placed them in a glass bowl and crovered them with the acid for about 4 minutes then removed them and rinsed with cold water they are now a primer gray color very dull Now I have'nt done the rifle yet but will very soon. Must first figure out how to apply it without streaking. Would take to much acid to cover it. Besides my wife dos'nt have a glass bowl that big. Heres the cool part if I dont like it Neverdull will make it shiney as new again with a little elbow grease. I'll tell ya how the whole thing works out as soon as possible. Hooker

How about a copper pipe with an end cap and support it up right somehow then insert your barrel.
Where can I get some of this "acid"?

Spike I'll give it a try, or maybe PVC pipe not sure if it will eat it or not I'll do some testing and let you know. I got my acid at a local lab. They tell me some Pharmacies can mix it up for you. Hooker

I'd be really careful to completely plug the rifles bore if you decide to immerse the entire barrel. I don't think an acid etch would do it any good.
