High everyone,
Just looking for some information. What information is provided in a factory letter? How far back do they go, 1899 or further? Thanks.

Mad Dog,
Thanks for your answer. As I remember from another post the cost was $20? A very worth while endeavor. Did you ever locate the Babcock Hardware it was shipped to? Thanks again.

mad dog,
I just got a factory letter on my 1895. s/n 673x, accepted at Savage on May 16, 1896. Shipped on Aug. 25, 1897. The original consignee was W.J. Donnelly, no address. I have started to work back thru previous owners, so far a blank wall. It is in the original configuration. Thanks for the information that started me on this trail.

mad dog,
We didn't get the letter sent last night. I will be out of town for the next couple of days, upon return we will copy and send it to you. Sorry about the delay, but I will get it to you.

Just saw your post ref: factory letter. After reading some of the other
comments and being a proud owner on a 99 i thought, what a great way to get some history on mine. It would be interesting to see where it`s been over the years ....if that`s possible. Letter will be in the mail as soon as my wife gives me my allowance.

R2D2, all the letter will tell you is where it was originally sent, not where it's been passed around.

What model and caliber are you sending in for? Just curious!

Got it Dave, thanks, I guess I could have just asked you these questions in a p.m. but this was easier.

The reason I asked is because I wanted to see if Marlin put out runs of 1895's in certain configurations but that was just blown to hell!

I had data on a 6730 that is a 1/2 and 1/2, and I wanted to see what yours was with serial number 673X. It turns out it was a round barrel so Marlin didn't make these in runs of rounds, oct's, and 1/2's. Unless of course you were right on the line! Thanks for your help, MD.
