anybody know how I can find out how old a Remington 700 is? Its an ADL in 22-250, 6 digit serial number

There should be two letters together (sometimes three) and not four. Neither UL nor MC are legit date stamps.

The first letter is the month and uses "BLACKPOWDERX" to represent the 12 months. The second letter is the year code.

After you get to the link click on the "manufacture date" area at the top of the page. It will take you to another chart with codes for dates more recent than 1972 as well as a diagram that explains where to find the date codes. Click on "Barrel code location diagram" for an enlarged view.

My Remingtons have codes of BW and KY which translate into Jan. 2002 and May 1974.

Some are a bit tricky. My .338WM is stamped RI, then a space, G.

The I is redundant, leaving the date Nov/1986 (its a 1987 classic)

Yours could be LM or LC, but with the 6 digit # I'd say its Feb/65 (LM)

Can you find the date of manufacture from the serial# on the action?? all my factory barrel's are long gone. for example my oldest Remington has a serial# that is 5 numbers followed by one letter 38xxxB

Nope, the date code is only on the barrel as the serial numbers are applied as soon as the receiver is milled. It may wait for some time before it is assembled.

I have quite a few Remingtons with impossible date codes. The guy doing the stamping may not be the brightest on their team...

One thing that's long puzzled me, is why some of my M788s have an A prefix and some don't. Never found much data on number ranges on M788s, just M700s.
