Hey guys, Not sure I'll beable to swing an edge next spring or not.

So what IYO is the next best choice for a lightweight stock? I'll be dropping a model 70 featherweight -06 in it and want to keep it as light as possible.

Thanks

Brown Precision stocks are my favorite. In my opinion, they are not "the next best choice". They are THE choice.

Be prepared for "There ARE no other stocks than McMillan" from this crowd though. laugh

You could go Brown or Banser and be quite happy with either.
If you held a gun to my head? I'd go Brown Precision.

Brown or Bansner but be prepared to pay the same as an edge (or more for the brown) unless you can finish the blank your self. The Brown pounder is a pretty sweet little stock.

That's very true.

FWIW, the gent that built my last two put Bansers on them because, while he really likes the Brown, the Banser, according to him, is twice as easy to work with. Both still require a lot of work.

I built up a few on the Brownell's no-name stock about ten years ago...it was about half the price of a Rimrock or Brown, more work for sure, but thet seemed a best buy. Anybody used one this deckade?

the bansner is half the work of a Brown, it is gelcoat esternally and a Brown is bare fiberglass/epoxy.

If you can bed a rifle and grind a recoil pad you can install one.

If you have to pay someone to do it, you may as well order an edge.

both the Bansner and the Brown will finish up around 25-26 ounces, or around four ounces more than a mcmillan Edge tech stock.

I've had all three, and other than weight I do not consider either to be 'next best' to a McMillan for a hunting rifle

here's an idea, call Borden Rifles and get one of the blemished blanks for $100. I got a couple for pre-64 model 70's and I asked Jim Jr to pick out the lightest ones they had and they are around 21 ounces without bedding or pad.

They still had some Model 70 blanks as of a few days ago
