I have a 257 Weatherby Remington CDL SF and i am looking to upgrade this a little at a time. I am looking to start with a new stock first and wanted to get you guys thoughts. I originally looked into the B&C like the one that comes on the Remington Ti rifle then I found that the Brown stocks are really nice also. You guys seem to rave about the McMillan and I could have it painted to a different color. Any recomendations? Does McMillan make the tactical texture for their standard stocks? Anybody ever use the palm swells for a more custom grip?

I am trying to make the rifle as light as possable as well. Does weight vary from brand that much?

Thanks,
Canoli

Thanks,
Mark

McMillan Rem Classic in Edge Technology is your huckleberry.

I'm partial to McM's olive color paint.

There are a lot of good stocks out there, but I personally wouldn't want something extremely light on that rifle. The 26" tube may make it a bit barrel-heavy with a lightweight handle. I'd probably go for a standard-fill McMillan Classic with gelcoat. But that's just my opinion.

I have a 700 CDL SF in 257 that I bought in July. I had it stocked with a McMillan Classic in Edge technology that is painted black. I can't speak to the tactical texture as my stock is checkered.

While it is light, it handles quite well. Thus far I have only taken one whitetail and one coyote with it.

My opinion as well!

Anybody who seriously concerns themselves with the adequacy of a Big 7mm for anything we hunt here short of brown bear, is a dufus. They are mostly making shidt up. Crunch! Nite-nite!

They are defenitly nice stock but I am not a fan of the checkering. DO they have the stocks without the checkering? What is edge technology?

Thanks,

McMillan does offer the Classic's without checkering as there was one in the Free Classifieds recently. The edge technology utilizes graphite in the construction which decreases the weight.

It wasn't a Classic but here is the Edge with no checkering I was referring to.

Why not a Mcmillan HTG? It would be perfect for you, slight palm swell and you can order it with no texture.

I have one on order right now!

You can have checkering filled in on any stock they make. I personally find the texturing to be unsightly but if you really want it call and ask, they are really helpful. Checkering and/or textured paint provides all the grip I've ever wanted.
