Well got my elk all cut up yesterday and took Dad out hunting in the evening (Dad is 77 years old). Spotted this bull at 468 yards well as I was getting dad set up on him the dang thing came running into about 350 yards. Dad was using my new Rifle its a APS .338 UltraMaxx shooting 300 SMK at 2840fps these are my fire forming loads when all said and done Im hoping for right around 3000fps
Anyways the bull step out at 320 yards and dad took the shothe might be getting old but he still has it, he sent the 300 SMK on its way and it hit right in the neck and thats was it. Then my work started again. Oh the wife needs to work on her recording skills.

Congradulation to your father and to you for the loan of the rifle. A fine job indeed
What load are you shooting behind the 300 SMK?
I got banned on another web site for a debate that happened on this site. That's a first

Excellent video and way past cool that you were able to share this with you Dad, what I wouldn't do to be able to do this with my Dad.
Thx for sharing

Thanks!!! hunting with dad is great, I just dont know how many hunts he has left in him. What is interesting to me is with this load that was used it has 4030 lbs of energy at 325 yards if you look at that elk his head is completely whipped around with amazing amount of force his antlers actually left a mark on the other side of his body. Actually my .338 UltraMaxx has more energy at 325 yards with the 300 SMK with mild fire forming loads than my .300 WBY has at 50 yards with 180 or 200 grain what ever I put in it. If I can reach my 3000 fps it will still have 2371 lbs at 1000 yards.

I well remember years back when I roasted a spike with my 340 at about 200 yds or so. It went down so hard that my bud called it a neck shot. I told him on the way over to it, no it was a chest shot. He didn't believe me till he saw the bullet hole.
Tis big time fun to electrocute them isn't it...!

joecool544 - Nice video. Good shooting too! Congratulations to your dad. Since I spoke to you earlier, I am getting interested in that .338 Ultra Maxx! Can you tell me more about the rifle etc.?
