Guys I admit I'm dumber than a woodtick when it comes to this so here's the question.

Two 1899's both in .250 Savage.
Both takedowns with the schnable forearm.
Ones straight grip with cresent buttplate and the second is pistol grip with shotgun buttplate.
Price seems right (to me anyways) plus condition is fair/good.

I cant post pictures yet but what would be the guess as to model numbers?

Damn when this Savage thing bites it bites hard!! laugh laugh

Sounds like one is an 1899 250-3000 and the other is either a later version or a model G.

Bet the first one has a cross checkered trigger and the second one has a trigger with only vertical lines on it.

Thanks mad dog.
I'll check the triggers and let you know.
So it's correct to simply call it an 1899 Takedown in the earlier versions?
About when did the G version come onto the scene?
No cracks or repairs although the pistol grip one is drilled and tapped.

By Tuesday morning I might be up to 3 and counting..... laugh

I can't think of any factory produced 250-3000 in straght grip take down with a crescent butt plate that was factory. The only 1899 in 250 was the 1899 250-3000 and the only 99 with a straight grip and crescent butt plate would be the 99B and that wasn't offered in 250-3000. Somethings amiss.

Yep, the crescent buttplate isn't right. What are serial number ranges?

The 99G separated from the 1899 250-3000 somewhere around 237,000 I think.

Dang you guys are good!!
One quick phone call cleared that up. The straight grip is NOT a 250-3000.
It's a 30-30.

Like I said ..."dumber than a woodtick..." (but learning fast!) laugh

Since the 30-30 is a takedown, it'd be an 1899A with takedown option or a 99B depending on serial number range.

Murray's is a good investment. grin

Sorry Popgun, I missed the straight grip thingy. I'm reading to fast.

Putting a K4 w post on a 219 25-20 and watching the kids and I've got a bunch of auctions ending shortly and I've gotta go in on night shift at 8 and......cripes, you'd never know it was Sunday.

Sounds like my house MD!

Thanks for all the replys Guys.
I'm going to cut the deal on these first light tommorrow.

The 30-30's really a bonus in that I now have an excuse to dust off the dies and stuff some brass with an actual rim on it for a change. smile

Popgun, I just sent you a PM.

Give us the serial ranges when you know them. We can verify what is right and wrong with them...if you want to know. smile
