Your hunting giant mulie bucks! The hard work is about to pay off. There he is! A Giant 300+ pound buck! The buck of your dreams.
Whats your go to rifle/cartridge? Exactly what has worked for me many times; M70 FW chambered for 270 Winchester. You can look long and hard and not find anything better.

While we're on the subject,if a guy does not mind a tad more weight and recoil, the various 7 mags are obviously top choices also.

For sheer classic appeal, I'd WANT to have my wonderful .270 Improved... err.... 30-06 in my hands. 165-gn Accubond at almost 3000 fps should git 'er done.
However, reality being what it is, my .325 Montana is pretty awesome and would likely get the nod. That's about as UN-classic a cartridge as there is right there <g>.

Whats your go to rifle/cartridge? Like this 300 pounder? He scored non typical 201. I prefer a wrecking machine, 700 Ti in 300 WSM 200 Accubonds. [img][/img]

That's a gruesome photo of one hell of a deer! :-) How's that WSM feed for you? Very cool rifle you got there... though if Certain People see that camo tape on the barrel, there will be hell to pay...

I own three 300 WSM's now Jeff, I have never had a problem with feeding. The 700's feed better than the Winchester.
Camo tape and hell to pay? Please inform me.
I do use camo tape on barrels but this happens to be a Bear Tooth barrel cover. I use tape and this to eliminate sun glint off the barrel.
I also use duct tape the end of the barrel and the M1 Dial.

I wouldn't either, and I'll give you a call in the next day or so. I need to do some work on a whitey that I did in yesterday morn.
223 and flight 53 TSX worked just fine...grins

The two WSM's I have feed great too. The WSM's are reputed to feed funky through some M700's and of course people knock the Ti action for being sticky, so I was just wondering out loud...
The tape on the barrel thing was just a (bad) joke; let's just let that one go <g>....

My go to gun & load is a .375 H&H loaded with a 270 gr Speer BTSP over 70 gr of IMR 4064. Do I need a cartridge this heavy? No. Do I like it it? Definitely yes.
Let me relate an experience for season 2007. I was hunting antelope with the .270 and couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. I was shooting all around them. I parked it and grabbed "El Troubador" (my 375 H&H), With the first shot the antelope was down. I can shoot better with it than the .270.

Whats your go to rifle/cartridge? I'd sure hope it was whatever gun I had shot a lot and was used to using in many situations. Other than that, it would make no difference to me. Thus, I'd be shooting a Win FWT -06 with 130TSX.

I'd just take out the same Tikka .25-06 with 100gr TSX's that I use for all the rest of my deer hunting lately.
Oh, wait a minute, I just shot a VERY large bodied mulie buck with that combo on Saturday...

My "go to" Mulie rifle is a Ruger #1 in a 7STW, 28" Shilen, Leupold VX-III 4.5x14x40 Adj. Obj.
160gr AccuBond or A-Frame on top of 75.5gr IMR7828sc, Fed215M moving about 3150fps. Works pretty well for Elk and PG too.
But then again, I've dropped with 300wsm, 25-06, 30-06 and the 30-378 Weatherby. They all work just fine.

I've shot mulies with two hand me down rifles: a Pre-64 Winchester Model 70 in 270 Win. using 130 grain Nosler partions, and a Remington Model 81 Woodsmaster in 35 Remington using factory 200 grain round nose bullets (sorry don't remember the manufacturer). For the prevailing conditions, they both did the job very well.
