How about 264 Win Mag for the 3rd. Use that as your light, super flat shooting rig for pdogs up to mulies, ... The above quote got me thinking... (always a dangerous thing...) Can anyone define the difference between flat shooting, really flat shooting and SUPER flat shooting? Just wondering...

The amount of letters. Other than that it is a "in the eye of the beholder" type thing.

The difference is less than 50 yards of PBR.
Nothing is really flat shooting past 300 yards. Get a laser, a turret, learn your corrections, and rock on.....

Kinda depends on how far... .408 Cheytac ain't no slouch. Of course .408 "Might" be a little large for P-dogs...Depends on how much you wanna spend to kill em...if money is no object...a tomohawk might work too...

Flat shooting? Really flat shooting? If you insist and wind drift and barrel life be dam_ed then here are a few:
first off, I agree with Montana Marine...an accurate rifle with high BC bullet and turrets.
BUT if you insist:
257 STW with 100 or 85 gr bullets
7 RUM with 100 or 120 nos bt
257 Roy with 85 gr nos bt
6.5-weatherby wright hoyer with 85 or 100 gr bullets (300 weatherby necked down to 6.5)
30 Lazzaroni Warbird with a 125 nos bt
6mm/264 win mag with 75 gr bullets
Extreme performance, as flat as you can get but at a price. Short barrel life and frequent cleanings to prevent carbon like buildup that is impossible to remove if it gets too heavy.
Build the rifle with at least a 30" barrel.

How about a 6.5STW,with 100gr. round going 4105fps,I'd say that would be super flat shooter

The theoretical advantages of higher velocity decreases because higher velocity always goes with increased recoil and shorter barrel life. There is also the midrange trajectory problem. For big game hunting I don't like more than 3" or so. Given this, then muzzle velocity over 3200 does not gain much. Better to increase BC by going with a heavier bullet which minimizes the more difficult problem of wind drift.

I'd say if you could combine a bc of .5 with 3500 fps at the muzzle, you'd be looking at a flat shooting rig.
But no matter how flat, or perhaps better stated less arched the trajectory, you have to use a laser for precise range and compensate with either turrets or a special reticle to precisely place shots at long range, i.e. past 400 yds.

Nothing is really flat shooting past 300 yards. Get a laser, a turret, learn your corrections, and rock on..... Pretty much sums it up..........most of the rest is just a lot of ballistic gymnastics, err, gack, err, whatever.. MM

Grasshopper, How about a 22 CHeetah.40 degree.I spent years with it and seem to remember running a 52g Berger at around 4100.At 4100 you only needed 2.75 of up, to be on,at 400 yards from a 100 zero.Good accuracy with that kinda speed spells death for longish range vermin.I built more Cheetah rifles later on that I could run even faster, say just under 4300.That flattened it out even more. and It was loads of fun to play with. But the chucks didnt like me much. dave dave
Only accurate rifles are interesting.

Nothing is really flat shooting past 300 yards. Get a laser, a turret, learn your corrections, and rock on..... Words of wisdom. Sounds like you've been down the barrel burning road also. LOL
