It looks like the brass and bullets are going to be carried by MidSouth. I was just on that site and they are listing them but are not yet in the catalog.

Yes, two levers are better than one so you need another.
And then four is better than two and six is ...............

What do you guys think of the 308 Express? I fondled one the rifles the other day but, didn't know much about the cartridge so I hesitated. As I was looking in a Marlin catalog to see what I could find on the cartridge another guy bought it.

So, what do you who own them think? Good / bad? Would you do it all over again?

ammo may be an issue with the 308 express.

I have a Marlin XLR in 308 ME and think highly of both the cartridge and the rifle. The rifle is very accurate and the factory loaded cartridge an easy 400 yard deer cartridge.
From what I have seen and read the 308ME's are selling very well almost to the point I think you can say the cartridge is a success.
I really do not see ammo availability as a concern. Remington is offering a load now too besides the Hornady load. Brass is available and Hornady is slowing releasing the various Leverlution bullets. I also think it is only a matter of time before some of the magic powders used become available.
In the meantime it isn't too hard to load up some meaningful ammo for shooting on the cheap and I plan on using factory ammo for hunting.

If you want a 308 levergun , then get a levergun that shoots the REAL 308 cartridge.

Nuff said.

I have a real 308 levergun. However, what if a guy wants a new rifle? The Savage is out of print. The Marlin 308 Express is an excellent choice for the guy who wants a new rifle in a cartridge that extends the range of a traditional levergun. I hope the combination is a great success.

Very nice. The tie around the lever gives a clue though.

The tie is not around the lever anymore.

Me..........I like the new lever gun calibers especially the 308 Marlin Express. In the 2 that I have they are as accurate with factory ammo as any bolt gun I own.

Lurk around this site lots of info!!!

Correct the 99 is no longer in production , however the rifles are still around. The 308 Win cartridge has no ending in the foreseeable future.
The 307 Win cartridge was an attempt to put a 308 class cartridge in a tube fed levergun , it is all but dead.
The 308MX is another attempt to put a 308 Win class cartridge in a levergun , when has a cartridge ever succeded that was only loaded by one company and chambered in one gun ?
Don't get me wrong I own several Marlins and I like them. I own a Marlin in 35Rem that is the smoothest action I have ever held in my hands and that includes actions of all types. The Marlin leverguns are great at what they were designed for , handgun cartridges and 30-30/35Rem class cartridges.
I wish that the 308MX would fly , but when all is said & done I believe it will flop.
The only other alternative in would be the BLR in 308 , that is if one likes a plastic rack & pinion POS.

No plastic in my BLR's or my 308MXLR. Marlin seem to be selling their fair share of this caliber. It is not likely to be picked up by another manufacturer any time soon, although I wouldn't rule out H&R for obvious reasons. There is still the .444 Marlin available and it isn't a wide spread chambering, same with the .450 Marlin. Winchester dropped the ball on the .307 and .356 but Marlin have a history of sticking by their guns (pun intended smile
