Question is simple. If you were starting from scratch to build a landscape (primrary) and wild life (secondary) lens kit for a full frame Canon body what would your choices be and why (assume budget would handle 2 or 3 lenses).

No offense to other brands--they all have their strengths and weaknesses--but I would like to limit this to Canon mount lenses.

Thanks in advance and early best wishes for the holiday season.

while certainly not a pro, I do have more of a landscape shooting style than any other subject. I'm assuming you have a 5D or a 1d ?

I am very fond of the 17-50 (which I believe Canon makes in an IS)
I would add a 70-200 (f2.8 or f4 IS)

TS lenses are a neat idea, but probably more important for architecture - the IQ is so-so for Canon's TS lenses on photozone.de.

Unfortunatly the Tamron digital lenses will not work on the 5D or 5dMKII nor will the Canon EF-S lenses such as the 17-55 f2.8 IS.
The 1DMkIII is still a crop body (APS-H) and the the 1DsMKIII is FF.
There really are a lot of options but with out some budget it's next to impossible to offer much meaningfull advice. If the skys the limit then I'd be dropping 6k on a 500 f4IS for wildlife toot sweet! grin
My choices would likely be a 17-40L and a 100-400 to start simply due to the price point. Another option would be the 24-105 and 100-400 but then you really dont have a wide angle lens, however you have a good starter wild life lens and a great standard walk around zoom. Other choices might be the 16-35 or a 24-70. If your not shooting indoors then there's no need for anything faster, heavier and more $ than f4 glass. Theese are specific lens pics and not just focal length suggestions. If you consider standard EF glass or third party glass you need to evaluate each lens as not all are created equal.

Darn, I picked up one of those recently. And now, the 5D is calling my wallet in a bad way.

I have the 17-55 and I really like that lens but no joy on the 5D or 5DMKII. frown
The rear element on digital lenses can interfere with the mirror on a FF body and the mount is slightly different. Here's a link that shows how some people modify EFS glass (not sure about the Tammy) to fit FF. IMO it's more than a bit over the top considering the damage you could do to the mirror but it at least shows the differences to some degree.
