After selling most of my toys to help my fiance get through school she has told me that I need to get myself a really nice rifle when she gets out of school, which is in May. Give me some ideas guys. Id like to keep it in the $1500 range give or take a little for the whole package. Give me some input. Normally I would never spend this much money on something for myself but I guess you got to keep your woman happy.

Mainly whitetails but want something that can handle long distance work. Also it is going to go elk hunting with me in the near future.

Let's see how many times this comes up. "Kimber Montana 308 winchester" or if you're feeling squirrelly, the same rifle in 300 WSM.

I'm gonna 2nd the "Tikka T3 and Zeiss conquest" suggestion, and add that it would be in 7mm Rem Mag, and the scope would be a 3-9x40 or 4.5-14x44 with rapidZ600 reticle. You'll thank me later.

I love my T3 Lite SS in .30-06 with Burris FF II Ballistic Plex. $800.00 out the door, or spend $200 more for the Conquest 3-9x40 for a wee bit more sharpness at the edge of night.
I would not get a magnum, because you don't need it for deer and it is just extra recoil and noise for one elk.
7mm-08, .308 Win, or .270 Win in the T3 would be ideal for me. Shot placement is more important than power, and the T3 will place shots, especially with milder cartridges.
You can sometimes pick up a wood T3 stock for $100, if you want to dress it up after a hard season of hunting.

I already have a good .270 so this one will probably be a magnum. I had a 300 RUM that I really miss. I have always wanted a 7mm STW. The 270 and 7mm WSM rounds are also appealing.

Win 70 all-weather (if they ever start making them?)..based on what I've seen of the new 70's so far. My guess it will be the most accurate of the bunch because the barrel will probably be "fatter" with the flutes..

I saw a movie where only the military and the police had guns. It was called Schindler's List.

Build a custom 270. Pacnor Tube, stainless Super match. Rem 700 action. McMillan Classic in GAP Camo (standard fill, not EDGE). Talley Lightwieghts. Leupold 3.5-10x40 VX-III B&C reticle or FX-III 6x42 with m1 Turrets. BMT

Buy a real rifle...like a .35 Whelen, .338-06, .375 Ruger. Medium bores rock.

First, marry that girl! Rare indeed. Then get a Kimber Montana in 338 Fed. Whitetails to elk to at least 300yds. Maybe more if tweaked. You'll be happy with her and Kimber. Thank me later.
