The best model ever produced by Savage was that 99F of the late 50's, the ones with the undlerlever safety. I have one in .308...Someday I will find one in 250-3000 that I can afford...I have my old 99EG in 250 so it will have to get me by until the F comes around...

This one is a .308 serial number 938XXX. Bit of a funny story because it's the gun that "set the hook" so to speak. Before this 99F came along the last 99 I had in my hands was my uncles post mil 99C about 30 years ago. I never gave them a second thought for years until I pulled this one off the rack and shucked the lever. I put it back and left the store without buying anything. One sleepless night later I was back there when they opened the doors and home with me it came.

My 99F is my first 99. It was in the rack at Bass Pro for about a year. I was going to get it last year with my Christmas bonus but the girlfriends dog got sick so I spent the money on him at the vet. This year it was still there and when the bonus came in she "made" me go to the store and get it. I was glad to see it was still there, I had been in everyday in the weeks leading up to when the bonus got there.

You did it all wrong. You should have bought the gun. Would have killed two birds with one stone. Buy the gun and then it would fix the dog problem at the same time.
