i recently found one of these used in great condition (95% perfect metal, minor dent in buttstock). it looks like a newer model (like the 700bdl with forend tip and similar wood) caliber is 30 ought 6. i dont have a 3006 in my collection, and its a fine deer rifle. it has leupold mounts but no rings or scope and priced for 375$. does this sound reasonable for a gun in this condition.

Sounds like a good deal to me. I have its predacessor, the model 760 in 30-06 and they're great deer rifles. Good luck.

That is a pretty good buy. The 7600 is a great rifle, don't let anyone tell you any different.Everyone in our hunting party hunts with the 7600 in '06. Mine is a terrific shooter, as are most. They are light, and easy to carry. I shortend the stock on mine and installed a recoil pad, but only becauuse Im vertically challenged . It will be a great addition to your arsonal.

I have got two of the earlier 760's. One in 35 Rem and the other in .308 Win. I love them both. I have killed deer with both of them. We have a moose season here in N.H. and I picked up a 7600 in 35 Whelen. I haven't shot it yet. I wanted to keep it unfired till I got another moose ticket. It's been a while so I'm gathering up reloading supplies to put it into action for deer. I don't think you can find a much better hunting rifle than the 760/7600. you did really well and ought 6 is a super versitle caliber. Good luck

thanks for the good info everyone. one more question, my plan is to mount a 6x42 or 6x36-(i already have one but i dont want to take it off my 45-70) scope. my hopes are the gun will be capable of 2" at 100 yards, otherwise it will not be very usefull for the majority of whitetail shots i encounter. do you think the rifle will be capable of 2".

Bought one for my oldest son to hunt with(.308) and it's a "tack driver" and I'll admit I was surprised at that!( I'd always heard that they "couldn't be as accurate as a good bolt action rifle).. I think you'll find it much better than 2"@ 100 yards and will be surprised greatly if it's not a moa or better rifle! We've shot over 200 rounds through it from 130 grains to 165 grains and it seems to "like" them all (most were reloads except for a box of 150 grain Winchester PP to get some new brass from) They are a really awesome rifle and from what I now hear and found out from this one very very accurate as well. Hope this is of some help...

I think you will suprised and pleased with how your 7600 shoots. If you don't get 1 1/4-1 1/2" that would suprise me. I have had several 7600's. Traded some off for various reasons, but always bought another one. They simply shoot great. The barrel is free floated sort of. The foreend does not touch the barrel at all. The action slide bars may negate that, but I don't know enough about gunsmithing to answer that correctly. Never the less, you should have no trouble getting less than 1 1/2" @ 100yds. Mine likes Rem core locs-165gr.

Would argue that an '06 or .270 7600 is the best allround hunting rifle for the lower 48, if you want to include Alaska make it a .35 Whelen. Most unfortunately do not have reallly good trigger pulls but Timney can improve them.

A hunting buddy of mine has one of the Model 7600 carbines in 30.06 and it has taken several deer. He likes it since it is easy to use in the rough. Just as soon as Remington (if they ever do) makes one in a weather resistant finish (like the 7400 is now) I might just get one.

I inherited my Dad's 760 Remington pump years ago when my Dad died. For the longest time it sat unused and cherished in my gun cabinet. I had no reason to use it as I had many of the "superior" bolt actions (some of them custom made) and I viewed the old Remington as just a wonderful reminder of my Dad's times spent with me. Oh, I know he'd shot a great number of moose (one at considerably past 400 yards), deer and even quite a few grizzly's with it while living up in the Peace River country in nothern BC. He always swore it was the best gun ever invented - especially when you had a big bear mad at you and coming fast through the alders. He said that the old round nosed 220 grain bullets never failed to stop them - and fast! I always listened to his many tales and smiled - all the while convinced of the great superiority of my pricey bolt actions. Then, a few years ago - I started using it.
Wow! Sub-m.o.a. groups! Fast follow up shots! A nice "snap -in" clip that enabled me to have a range of bullets at a momments notice. Bullets from 150, through 180 all the way to 200 grain (I use Barnes X's) that shot to almost the same spot!
Now, I'm a convert. Oh sure, I take out my my many bolt actions once in a while - but my favorite gun - is that old Remington. It sure does what I ask it to do.
Yours,
Brian

I have a 7600 carbine, flat black bead finish, composit stock,18 1/2" barrel in 30-06 that I bought two years ago new for $399.
The barrel is free floted as the slide assembly is mounted on a tube screwed to the reciever under the barrel.
I have a 1-3 Weaver on it and the cross hairs cover about 3/4" at 100 yds,so I cant get much better than 2" groups.
The shotgun trigger had about a 7lb pull initialy but was worked down to 4 1/2 lb. Gunsmith would'nt go any further brcause it might get erratic.
I only use it in the pucker brush where "minute of elk" is good enough so the disadvantges are minimized by it's handiness and reliability.

Can't tell you for sure whether it's a good deal, as I use a different currency, and gun values vary regionally.

I can tell you however, they are a fine, accurate rifle.

Hi, if you're goimg to sling it. Make sure you get the swivels that attach to the end of the fore-end, not the barrel band. I originally bought the barrel band and was getting no better than 2 to 3 inch groups. I bought the swivels for the 760 that attach to the fore-end(Uncle Mike's says they won't fit) and my groups dropped to 1.5 inches with the same loads. You may have to trim the screw to length, but that just takes a few minutes.

Of my two7600's and 1 760, I have never had a problem with the barrel band sling swivel. It could just be the way you are holding your rifle when you shoot. I have yet to shoot a 760 or 7600 that did not shoot 1.5" groups. Glad to hear you found a fix to the problem.
