Having owned an 1895ss for years, I was excited when marlin brought out the guide gun. I've looked for good deals when I've had the funds but still haven't found one. Just the other day I was shopping for my Christmas gift when I found a steal of a deal on a 444p with a vari-x III 1.5-5x20. I never thought I'd buy a 444 but $450 seemed too good to pass up. I found some brass, so now I wait for dies to come in. I can't wait.

The 444 is a personal favorite. Perfect scope on that, too....

Thanks Guys, I now have dies, brass and bullets. I loaded up some 240 gr winchester hp's. I took the scope off so I could change the mounts. (I couldn't deal with the see-throughs that it came with) I'm waiting for some low zee rings to come in to get it all put together.

I have the same rifle and really enjoy it. I have a Leupold 4X mounted in low Zee rings. You have a great combo there.Mine shoots the Leverevoluyions really well but I did have to change the magazine follower. I'm working up loads now using the Hornady 265 grain. Good luck!!!

.
Why did you have to change the magazine follower?

Marlin changed the mag follower on their guns when the Leverevolution came out to feed better.Yhe 444P was made before the change. The new follower works fine with other bullets but the old style follower can have trouble with Leverevolution except for guns chambered in 35 Remington.

Actually, the Leverevolution ammo jams in the 35 Rem also without the magazine follower being changed. I know someone this deer season that had to single load his Marlin in order to chamber the round.

I had an older 35 and shot several boxes through it without any problem whatsoever. They won't work in my Remington model 14's though!
