Anybody clear coat there mcmillan with automotive clear?
I am interested in the pro and cons in doing this

I looked into it as it looks cool as hell. I didnt do it because they wanted $100 and it would have been slick as snot for a hunting rifle.

For a bench gun it looks really really nice.

A better/cheaper alternative is to wet sand the stock with wey/dry sandpaper starting with around 220 and work your way to 1500. Looks almost as good with no chiping, flaking, solvent, or baby sitting concerns.

Ditto what aalf said. Once you are done, put a few coats of carnuba wax on it. It'll be as slick and good looking as the clear coat, and won't cost you more than about an hour and $5.
