I noticed Cabela's has its Space Rain jackets marked down and thought I would try it. Anyone have experience with these jackets as a packable rain/wind shell? I plan to keep it in my pack all the time due to its pack down size & weight, and my primary hunting is for elk.

Thanks in advance and Happy New Year!

I have it and love it! I sold my Sitka Downpour even. I like it that much! I wish they had the same in non camo. It will rip, but I have had mine on 2-elk hunts and many hikes.

So far so good for me too. I haven't had it that long but I like it. I've been dry in light rain, and it works well cutting wind when I stop to sit. I don't march through the brush with it on as it appears to be a bit on the fragile side. I will stillhunt while wearing it, but am very carefull while doing so.

How noisy have you guys found it? I looked at some about 1hr ago and just from feel thought that it'd be loud. The ES1 did impress me somewhat though...

I bow hunt in mine and when it is raining who cares. I do not find it to be too noisy for rain gear.

I've used the stuff for many years and its perfect for lower 48 deer and elk hunts.

I would not use it as my primary rain gear in Ak or Canada

I've had to patch holes in mine, like Ken said, you've got to be careful with it.

Good stuff for medium duty rain conditions. Great wind breaker for underneath. Weighs next to nothing, takes up little space in pack and comparatively inexpensive to buy and replace. A little noisy, but when it's raining the noise factor is much less of a problem.

Even a better deal on sale.

I just sent mine back this morning. I used it one time on a sheep hunt and the pants ripped! Don't even think about going near a branch with this stuff. I am going to go with the Rivers West light rain gear.

Shows how different people can have valid conflicting opinions. I've treated mine fairly rough and while it has come away with a few wounds they have been small and did not continue to open.
Have not seen the Rivers West "light" gear, but their regular line is good stuff even if slightly heavy and not very packable when space is an issue.

Also hard to beat Holly Hensen (sp?) for durability and price.
