Well I guess I'm a certified "real" Alaskan with Ironbender's stamp of aproval then smile
Does that mean that everyone who hasn't isn't a real Alaskan? I hope somebody can break it easy to all those old prospectors in heaven (or hell) that they never qualified, didn't change any water pumps.

I know I have quartered too many caribou at -20...

Miss T's Delta bison was at about -25 IIRC... And we had two to deal with.

Early Spring of about '70 I froze my big toe solid while caribou hunting between Paxson and Sourdough. Bunny Boots were not enough that time. That was in the -50 range.

It's just one way to qualify as you know, having done it! Didn't say it was the only way.

LOL, just giving you a hard time. I think there are alot of people in Alaska (particularly Anchorage) who don't really qualify as Alaskans.

I'm setting my alarm for midnight just to get up and change my water pump, even though it's not broken.

My truck has not been a fan of the cold weather. When are you supposed to plug them in? -10? -15?

Does rebuilding my carburetor under a street light at -15 qualify me? Did that in Missouri 30+ years ago. Guess I was getting ready... grin.

No water pumps on trucks, but once changed a fuel pump on a 67 Chevy at -25F behind the control tower at Elmendorf long about 1963, as I remember it was extreme fun crazy. Also lots of frozen and busted pipes at way below zero.--- Mel

Nope! Carbs do not count!

It's not so much the cold temp repair as it is unfrozen liquids at -20!

I've a long list of favorite "unfrozen liquids." Does that count? he

Funny you should mention that Mr. Beerhuntr!

When I first moved to Fbx., I remember being warned not to keep bottled human antifreeze under the seat of one's crummy. There had been certain individuals taken to the ED with frostbitten esophaguses (esophagusi?) from taking a wee dram to ward off the cold. The unfrozen liquid at -40 or so wasn't worth it!

Don'tcha know you're not supposed to sip Mrs. Butterworth's? (For those who haven't ever been enticed by the prospect of "freezing-by-antifreeze", liquor does employ a certain viscous attitude when chilled "just a bit" - like 100 degrees chilled crazy .)

Kinda funny how "cold" temps seems warm after a spell of colder.
