I have a couple of 10/22s and would appreciate some input on optics. On one I have an Ultra-dot L/T red-dot that I'm planning on using for most of my plinking and short-range hunting and am thinking about putting a Nikon Buckmaster 4.5-14x40mm Mil-dot on the other.
Anyone using something like this? If so, what do you think? Is there a better choice, for under $250, for punching paper and sniping ground hogs at 50-100 yards??
Biden's most truthful quote ever came during his first press conference, 03/25/21. Drum roll please...... "I don't know, to be clear." and THAT is one promise he's kept!!!

Nebraska,
I've got a Buckmaster with a Mildot reticle mounted on a CZ-452 American rimfire and have been very satisfied with the results. I typically shoot mine at 50 yards and longer so the 50 yard parallax limit on the scope is not a problem for me. Others may want to shoot at closer distances and may want a scope that they can set the parallax down to 30 yards and below.
The view at 50 yards is fantastic, and bullet holes are easily seen at 100 yards through the scope. I can sometimes see the .22 holes at 200 yards if the light is right... but mostly rely on a spotting scope at this longer distance as my eyes are getting a little more tired these days.
It's a great scope for the money!

Is there a better choice, for under $250, for punching paper and sniping ground hogs at 50-100 yards?? ...IMO, i would say yes there is. Here's the optic i put on my Ruger Charger. With it i have made 1st shot connections to 200 yds., and 4-6" gps. with Stingers/Quik Shoks at that range.-- http://www.rapidreticle.com/22lr3-9x32.htm..i like it for it's streamlined design, low profile turrets, and of course, the reticle. The only drawback is magnification (not 14x). It can't be seen in that diagram, but there are also small dots that effectively divide the vertical axis between 160 and 200 yd. stadia into .25 subtension units.

You've got the low-power optic covered, so why only go to a max of 14. I also have two 22 rifles, one with a red dot, the other with a Millett 6-24x40 that is a tremendous value for the $. 24 on the high end really gets you close for the 100yrd+ work.
Millett has a GREAT customer service dept also IME. Bought a used scope w/ a turret that was stripped, called them and they gave me a new one no questions asked. I now own three Milletts and have had no other issues.

I have one on my 17Hummer. I think very highly of it. Good glass, tracks/repeats well.
