This ones coming my way and I was just curious if someone has placed an R (or other) buttstock on this. The frame is pre-mil F all the way but the stock has me thinking.

And dont ask about the studs. They're Uncle Mikes all the way. laugh

I thought the F's had a fluted comb on the top.

No F's left here to look at, I got rid of them all and started buying up all the R's.

Looks more like an EG stock to me, the R had a squarer buttplate I believe.

It fits the gun as if it was original though. Check to see if it has matching codes on it when it comes in.

That's what I was thinking as well. My F is different than this one and anything I've seen in print on the F matches the other style comb.
Might be a EG stock as well although I dont have one to compare to.
Not in too bad of shape though even if it is a clone.

Here's the F and an R that I already have.

You're right. There is a difference.
The R is squared off more.

It's likely an EG.

I won't know for a week or so because it has to travel about 2000 miles before I see it but I'll check when it gets here.

Would hollow mean Featherweight?

Looks right for an F, Lauren?
I dont know if they mixed and matched at one time and without the serial number here today I'm just guessing.

The fluting was not there for a while on the premil 99F's. I've got my notes at home. I think they started with the fluting in late '56?

So, it could be correct. Pull the buttstock and forearm and check for matching codes.

Just as soon as it's in my hot little hands I will do just that.
I'll keep you posted as to what I find and put up the serial number.

Thanks for all your help once again.

The fluting was sporadic, some early F's had em' some didn't. Some late ones had em' some didn't.

The F stock is slimmer than the EG I believe. Also it will have 3 holes drilled out of the butt versus one for the EG. 1 for the bolt 2 for weight reduction.

Well it would certainly be an exception. The hollowed out butt stock is one of the ways Savage got the weight down to make it the "featherweight"

Okay, in my notes I've got that very late 1955 and 1956 may not have fluting, but 1957 through 1959 does.

Not sure how accurate that note is, just something we discussed a while back. All my 99F's have been 1957 through 1959 and have had the fluting.
