While I am waiting for the Ruger Hawkeye to be made in a short action, left-hand, in stainless, I would like to know from other Hawkeye owners how they like their Hawkeye, and if they are satisfied with the accuracy and quality of the gun. I am very happy with my Tikka 595 in 7-08, but can't find another one in left-hand, and I have "the need" for a 308. The Tikka T3 is available, but only in the long action, which is not necessarily bad. Any comments/critiques welcome.

I feel your pain. Being "Left handed' and wanting a short action stainless leaves little options. I would certainly consider a lefty short avtion Ruger Hawkeye if they made one.

My solution was a lefty short action stainless Savage rifle model 16. The 260 barrel was just a 1 1/2 inch shooter and it wears a McGowen barrel now in 260 which I screwed on myself.

The Savage left short action provides more options...but controlled round feed is not one of them.

Here's your left hand .308 Hawkeye. It's not stainless and the listing doesn't say which action length. Also going to be made in 7mm-08 and .243 so one hopes it will be a true short action.

I have a .257Roberts and it is a shooter. Nice tight groups with factory ammo.

Stainless/synthetic. The 308 shoots groups about like 1ASA's with handloads it likes. Good shooting 1ASA!

My .257 Roberts shoots okay....1.5 MOA on average, some better (just under MOA) groups. Do most people find Rugers shoot tighter factory bedded or free-floated?
I think a bit more magnification might allow me to shoot a bit better at the range; I'm currently using a Leupold 2-7X33; they are actually only a 6-power scope. I may try a true 9-power for the range.
I'm happy with the trigger; it ain't my old Model 70, but it's pretty good box-stock. I love the redesign on the stock and the wraparound checkering. The only things I'd change if it were possible (and it's not) is to have the tang safety back, and have a detachable magazine. And I wanted the rifle in stainless but Ruger doesn't make a stainless Roberts as a regular offering.

My 25.06 shoots 5/8' in at 100 mtrs and the trigger is 5lb and the front action screw is so tight it won't undo I guess i'll just have to put up with it. Blue and walnut all the way !!!

Anyone know if Lipsey's offers the stainless Hawkeye with black laminate in 270? I can't seem to locate one(?)

I have had them go work well both ways but if I were going to say I would glass bed the action and the barrel shank ( that 1st 2 inches) and float the rest.

So far he's batting 1.000 with this gun on whitetail. Killed his first buck this past weekend with it as a matter of fact.
