I have never been a black rifle fan, but I am now looking into buying a Bush Master Carbon 15 rifle. This 4 lbs or less rifle would in my mind be a great coyote calling rifle and jack rabbit slayer. Any have experience with this brand or this new model? It has a 16" barrel with a 9 twist. Thanks http://www.bushmaster.com/shopping/Carbon15/az-c15r21.asp

I love BUSHY and am pretty well sold on the 20" V-Match or Tactical Competition version of same(better trigger).
Personally,I'd stick with known quantities and carbon flyweight crap wouldn't be the route I'd travel on an AR.
Bolt a 3.5-10x 40mm on that and there is little that cain't be done and handily.
Your mileage may vary.....................

Dammit Stick, he asked for SERIOUS input. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
Since when did you start being serious? Wait a minute, anybody that owns a pink stocked rifle can't be SERIOUS. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />

SU--I've got a 16 in flat-top heavy barrel with a C-More holograpic sight. It rocks. Have had no problems, and good accuracy.

I'm seeing some good guys with good experiences with the Bush Master that is good!
But Stick, After picking up that carbon 15 at a gun show last night it's like WOW! What a fun rifle to pack to a calling stand.
I'm afraid I'll be taking the plunge today on this one. And Its Spike's fault!

SU35,
I've owned,
1- Colt flat top match
1- Bushmaster A2 16" w/floated barrel
2- Bushmaster V-Matches in 20" & 16"
The BM's will shoot circles around the Colts for $200-$300 less. The V-Matches both shot 1/4" 3 shot groups at 100yds. I'm a big Ruger fan and I had a Mini 14 by ARS that shot as good as the V's, but for the money, right out of the box accuracy, nobody beats Bushmaster IMHO. I'am thinking about buying another V-Match for yote hunting but can't decide on a 20" or 16", its a carry weight thing. The Varminter is too long and heavy for calling gun I think.
I agree with the other guys, stick with the V-Matches. I think the carbons are too light.

I had a Pre-Bushmaster Carbon 15 and liked much about it. No malfunctions at all. I had a red-dot sight and still got MOAish 5 shot groups at 100 yds. Negatives were that the short barrel really hurts ballistic performance and it was one of the louder guns I've ever shot. Not one to be using at night. If you are going to walk a whole lot and shoot a little the Carbon 15 might be just the ticket. If you're Varmit Hunting there are lots of Super-Accurate AR-15's available that would be better all-around. Bushmasters are a good all-around choice but even thier target model triggers aren't very good. Try and Jewel trigger and you'll see what I mean.........DJ
Remember this is all supposed to be for fun.......................

One thing to be aware of with semi-autos is that you have to have the first round in the chamber before you fire and their is no really quiet way to chamber a round. This tends to cause you to keep a round chambered. I very much prefer not to do this for reasons of safety.

Thank you all for the excellent input. Hey, I just put in an order for a Carbon 15 yesterday. I'll wring it out with a 3x9 scope and let you know how things work out.
thanks again

You don't have to slam the bolt home on an AR15. You can close it slowly and then use your finger on the bolt to push it closed, or use the forward assist when chambering a round. It really isn't very noisey that way.

For the kind of varmints I bought mine for, I WANT them to hear that bolt slam home. Might save me having to shoot one.
