Anyone still run 4064 in the 270 win? It seems it was a quite popular load with 130 grain bullets back in the days before 4831. I've got a pound, so probably gonna give it a try, just curious what others results have been. Thanks.

I have used it but not for several years. 49.5 gr. over a 130 gr. bullet is an old J. O'Conner load. It chronographed just over 3000 in my rifle and was pretty accurate. I finaly just settled on H4831 though.

Spot on! O'Connor killed everything from deer to grizzlies with that load.I've shot plenty of rounds with it.

Also gets a 90 gr Sierra HP going around 3500 fps, extremely accurate in 3 different 270's I have. It is pretty reliable powder in most of the 06 class cases including the 270 & 35 Whelen. In spite of all the new introductions, it is difficult to Significantly surpass the performance it can generate.
BRoper, some find it works better loaded under the bullet:) I ended up the same place you did.

Thanks fellas. Ive used it in the 30-06 with 150 grain bullets some, and it has served me well. I will try it in the 270 with some older 130 bronze points I acquired. Gotta love those classic loads.

IMR 4064 has been my favorite powder for everything from the 220 Swift to the 30-06 with many stops in between. The only drawback is that it meters like gravel!

Accurate powder seems to have changed their website. It used to say that their 4064 was formulated to be the same as IMR 4064 but with shorter grains for better measuring. Now I can't get any info about the individual powders.

Anybody use their version?

I have and found it pretty darn interchangable...

as said above also, 4064 is the powder I reach for, in a lot of different cartridges...sure I can give up a 100 fps compared to slower powders, but I don't give up accuracy... and I don't run thru a pound of powder as quick... I am sure using less powder isnt' hurting the barrel life either...

I use a Lee Dipper instead of those powder throwers... but it is kinda like gravel, going into 22 caliber necks...so just pour it in slowly.. and it will go in there fine..

I have used a bunch of 4054 from IMR & Accurate. I have tested them several times over my chronograph, including a "head to head" comparison early last year in 270 and 35 Whelen. I believe them to be interchangeable. I am currently using the Accurate version. It is proving to be a better Whelen powder than RL15. Nice stuff.
