I have the standard Longhunter model, and find the bag too small for longer trips.... I am considering the "guide" bag (7200 CI) or the "Rendevous" bag ( 8500 CI)

anyone have these bags, or opinions on size of bag for 10 day trips - is the 7200 or 8500 preferred?

thanks

I had the Guide bag and it was always nearly loaded to the hilt whether I was going for 3 days or 7. I would consider 7000 ci. minimum for hunting trips. But consider too that, I believe, the extra space for the bigger Longhunter bags is only in the lower compartment. I'm almost sure that is true of the Guide but not sure Rendevous. So the Guide bag is not taller and wider, just roomier in the sleeping bag section. This may have change in the last year or so, so please confirm.
I wouldn't hesitate to get the Rendevous; especially if it is, indeed, taller/wider. That extra space could be nice.

I had a Rendezvous and Long Hunter and now have a Guide. The LH was too small for me with any sort of layers despite a compact pad and sleeping bag. The Guide works but for my use I wouldn't mind a Rendezvous. You can always tighten them down for a smaller load. Sounds like you made the right choice.

Not to change the subject. Have you looked at the pods for adding space.

I think that 120L (7200 cu. in.) is plenty of space for 10 days. I did an extended mountaineering trip a few years ago, with food re-rations every ten days. My pack was about 110L and it was plenty of space for all of my goods plus, rope, rack, helmet, harness, etc. I'm sure you could fill 140 L's if you put big chunks of your critter in there too, but if I did that I personally couldn't carry it.

One big pro to a larger pack is you don't have to hang the sleeping pad outside or compress the heck out of everything.

Yea, I could do without a lot of gear, or extra food, or whatever, but I choose to take it. If I went for 7 I would need extra food so I would leave gear behind, or pack the pod. If I went for 3 days I ate real good.

I have a guide model, and it is plenty big enough for a 10+ day backpack sheep hunt. I used to use a camp trails cargo max 70, but I had to tie some gear on the outside(tent, tripod). Now everything goes inside.

4-5 days out 4000-5000in bag works fine for me. I wouldn't want a bag that big. Would add that my 5 days out are typical fall hunting not severe winter. Still I can get every thing in my Dana alpine or loadmaster easy.
