590 yards at a full run. This is my personal best shot on a coyote. I've shot them farther out but not at a full run with perfect shot placement. Unlucky SOB

Eastplace: Good for you harvesting that dandy Coyote! Thats quite a shot! 590 yards at a full run and dinging that Yotes bell with ONE shot! WOW! I have never accomplished anything anywhere near as noteworthy as that - and believe me when I tell you I have shot at a lot of running Coyotes! By the way what Rifle/caliber were you using for your "long distance Varminting"? Keep up the good work - theres more of them out there! Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

Was just watching Quest for coyotes I last night with Les Johnson and his brother. Les dropped one on the run later ranged at 617 yards.
Nice shot.

Take a 6.5 x 55 swede and neck it down then blow out the body and a 40 deg shoulder.

It pushes 55 grain BT at 4200 with no trouble, I've got thousands of rounds thru her with that bullet and W760. About 200 rounds ago I tried using RL15. Loaded to the same velocity it shoots to the exact same point of impact with no scope adjustment! At least to 590 yards I call it the 6x55LB but it is really a 6x55 Jordan. He is the guy who did the Ackley improved number on the standard 6.5x55. It is also a jewel and with a long throat can do anything the 6.5-284 Norma can, without a rebated rim.

Eastplace: Your bullet got TO that Coyote in only .421 seconds! Maybe a little longer as I just divided 1770' by 4,200 F.P.S.! And we all know that YOUR wonderous bullet does slow down a bit as it travels 590 yards (1,770'). Again fantastic shot! And thank you so very much on the information about your Rifle and your wildcat cartridge! And for the great pictures! Keep after them! Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

Wow! Twice my comfortable limit. Great shot. I shot one running full out one time, but he was about 40 yards!
He too was very unlucky!

Eastplace, how much of a lead and holdover on a shot like that and was this off a bench? Amazing shot and a great looking yote.

The shot was not off the bench it was jump out of the truck and take a knee. I can shoot over a 1000 yards at my shop so I know where to hold the reticle for extended ranges. I led him what looked liked 20 yards and followed thru like I was shooting a duck. My comfort zone on a coyote is way out there. I consider anything under 400 yards to be a chip shot. I shot another one this morning at 285 yards with my Sig 556 with a 60 grain V-max.Not your standard coyote rifle. Example of marking holdover without dots or LR reticle. I will change my zero during the year for different hunts. This is the zero I use for fall turkey and head shooting doe antelope.

What scope are you using? Did you have someone ranging while you were getting ready to shoot. Excellent shot. I've seen videos of people shooting them over 700 yards but not on the run.

I've shot them on a flat out run at 360 yards before, but never anywhere near 590! WOW. Although I did hit a gopher on a full run at 110 yards with a .22LR once.... BTW, I saw this: "I call it the 6x55LB but it is really a 6x55 Jordan" in your post above, and just wanted to tell you that I don't need to take TOO much of the credit, you can call it the 6x55LB if you want to Also, according to Sierra I6, the time of flight would be 0.5931 seconds at 3900 feet elevation and 60% humidity.

I'm using a leupold VX-III 6.5 x 20 x40 LR. I was coyote hunting on my way to the mailbox when Wiley showed himself. I didn't even have my range finder with me. I dropped him, drove all the way back to the house to get my range finder then measured the distance.

You're welcome Time of flight = 0.5657 seconds. Amount of correction required in a 20mph wind = 51"
