I found a small computer chip, about 1 1/4 inches square.

Written on it is the mfg., Canon. And also on it is Compact Flash Card FC-32M.

Does anyone know what this is, and what type of computer or camera or device it would fit in?

Someone tried to set me up with the police for having illegal stuff on my computer, and this thing is one of the things the person gave to the police. I have never seen it before and I don't know what it is.

The police gave it back to me, so there must not be anything illegal on it. I told them it wasn't mine and that I have never owned one and had never seen it before, but I might as well have been talking to a stump.

Actually, I had rather talk to a stump.

It is actually a 32mb CF compact flash card, for older Canon digitals. Les

Looks exactly like the picture that Les is showing, but what is it?

For a Canon digital what? A camera?

I didn't exactly 'get it,' although I have it.

Someone who got mad at me reported to the police that I had some illegal stuff on my computer. The person who reported this also had access to my computer.

Listed on the warrant of things seized was the chip. I never owned one and didn't know what it was.

Last week, I got my computer back from the police, and the told me that two experts had goned through my computer and all my disc and didn't find anything illegal.

The chip was in the bag with my disc, when the police gave them back to me.

Yes, it did sound very suspicious. I was not at home when the police served the warrant, so I never saw the chip. I was very worried that the person who made the malicious report had planted it, along with something illegal on it, when I read on the warrant that it had been found and taken and I knew that I didn't have one, or even what it was.

Weird things people will do when they hold a grudge, even if it is an imagined grudge.

Yes. A memory card primarily used in a camera, but they can also be used for storage of about any kind of electronic file. I have a buddy who used to actually back up his PC on a similar card. One might look for friend with a suitable camera or card reader and simply give it a look. It could be the suspected person left some clues as to his identity on board if he was indeed the true owner. People have done much dumber things than that.

1minute, yes, I was thinking of that, too. I'm going to hold on to it. Maybe I can find something that it will work in.

The computer was sent to the Secret Service. Surely they would have had a way to veiw the chip, don't you guess?

Buy one of these and plug it into your computer's USB drive SanDisk card reader
No guarantees you can open what's on there but you can at least see what is on there. I would certainly give it a very good virus scan before I did so.

Knew a fool at work who had a habit of sending nasty mail to the WH. Not the type of attention you need (or want) to attract!

He was on a first-name basis with the local feds.

You can get a cheap data recovery program to search the disk for old data, even if reformatted. Some of these programs are amazing!

That way you might find pictures of the setup artist making out with a goat etc.
