Fug, I knew you'd have a few. I'd probably cry if I knew how many 243's you had. grin

One of those EG's in 308 lately on the auction sites was rechambered from 300 Savage, but there was at least one other. How many 99R's in 243 have folks seen? I can't really recall seeing any, but I have seen maybe 4 EG's in 243 on auction sites.

A guy I work with has an EG serial#9226xx in .243. Can't pry it loose from him. How much have they been going for lately?

It was worth exactly what I got for it. smile I have only had one other R that was better (My 3 best R's were all .308's). Never have seen one in .243 up here. Got a line on a really nice .250 R though.

Mad Dog,
I don't know if mine is the 99R .243 you are referring to or not. It is ~90-95% condition but all original. I kind of just "fell" into it by luck, and I'm not complaining either! I kind of like R's the best of the later pre-mills too. They just seem to be a better "fit" for out west where I live... they can keep all the F's back east in that heavy cover. I guess that leaves the EG's to the guys in the heartland!!!
BTW, many years ago before I appreciated the 99 for what it is, I had an older neighbor who shot a pre-mill .243 EG. I foolishly offered him some 100gr Nosler reloads to try one year which subsequently failed to eject after a miss on a cow elk and required a later trip to the gunsmith for removal! He wasn't pleased I'm sure. A year or two after he passed away, his wife invited me over and offered me the choice of one of his guns. I chose a beautiful Belgian Browning Sweet Sixteen A-5 over the 99 .243. I'm still happy with my choice but often wonder who got the .243. I've asked several of his distant relatives and no one seems to know... they didn't even know I had the Browning!
I would be happy to put a pic of the 99R .243 for others to see if someone wants to post it for me.

All said, the Savage 99 is a genius of a rifle. Although no longer produced, it remains highly revered, as it was the foundation from which Arthur Savage built one of America's great gun companies. >> (Jon Y. Wolfe) <<

That's the way it sounds.. probably as common as his 99T in 22HP is. Very nice.

I passed on a .243 EG quite awhile ago now. I posted it here and one of our members from Texas bought it. It was at a gunshop in New Boston, N.H. For the life of me I can't remember which member it was. I'm thinking it was the only one I've ever seen. Caliber does nothing for me. Much prefer the 250-3000.
