Encountered a Marlin lever action .30-30 today, barrel was
marked Model 3084S, stock had a medallion inbedded in it
with the words Mountain Man on it. Is this rare or a common
item?

This is one of the annual commeratives Oklahoma Tire & Supply (OTASCO) had made. Each year for several years beginning in 1978, they offered a glenfield model 30A in 30-30 and a model 60 in 22 with a special medallion inlaid into the stock. Yours was made in 1984 and the medallion should be of a mountain man.

Is it rare? I believe I read a post on another forum some time ago that less than 2000 of each year's 30-30 and 22 were made. My memory ain't gettin' a darn bit better, though, so I'm not signing anything. They really don't seem to command a premium price, but there were several variations, and they could be their own separate collecting field. SW

I have one of these as well. Bought from Otasco.
Seems though mine is a 3085S Serial number UR000312.
I'll double check.
I've taken many white tail deer with mine. The one I remember the most was taken at a range of about 200 yards and the buck was running. One shot to the lungs and when he spun around the other shot was the heart. Pure luck, it was where I thought I was aiming.
I was sick at home that day and was looking out my front door at some fields. No other houses anywhere near. After I saw him disappear I went back inside and got dressed.
I found him laying 40 yards away. Nice 8 point!

I have a Marlin model 3084S and am looking for a manual. My father left it for me in his will. It is in mint condition. Any such item you know where I could get one or a copy of one? Thanx
