I have a all factory model 7 chambered in 300SAUM. Can I get that rechambered in 300WSM with any problems? Such as magazine or action length. Please help me out here as I really want to have this done and at the same time have the barrel fluted.

Thanks
AM

Why not sell it and get what you want? Probably more cost effective..

Or maybe just try some R17 if your looking for a little more speed outta the SAUM.

People are raving about it in the reloading forum.

Resale seems to suck on these.

Sure you COULD sell it and get what you really want. You COULD use RL17 and get more velocity out of the SAUM to make it more comparable to the WSM.

Then again, who ever said that being a rifle looney was logical? grin

Hmmm . . . it would seem that the saum would do the job. Is this a case of size matters?

Im sure you could. All it takes is time and money.
I dont see you gaining anything worthwhile however...

You might try asking this question in the gunsmithing section. I thought I heard it was as simple as snaking a 300WSM reamer down the chamber.

Easiest thing to do is slap some tape on the barrel and write 300WSM on it. No cost and you have what you want!

There are other reasons than ballistics as to why I want to switch it over to WSM. It has to do with keeping things simple from a reloading stand point and what hunting partners are using.
So I did post the question in the gunsmithing section. All I really wanted to know is, can it just be rechambered without any other modifications.

Another question to ask is whether the barrel is thick enough to be fluted. I know the SAUM Model 7's have a heavier barrel contour than the .308 case sized models, but IIRC there is some minimum dimension below which barrel makers emphatically do not recommend fluting.

Could be yours is okay but it's something to verify.

if you can't have it rechambered, have it rebarreled.

sell it and get the WSM, Unless it's such a good shooter that you fear not getting another good shooter.
