Local gunshop has this rifle sitting in the rack. Guess somebody ordered it and backed out on the deal. It is new and they are asking $160 for it.
I'm tempted to get it just for a fun "plinking" rifle and something to carry around as a companion piece when out hunting arrowheads.
Whaddya think? I sure don't need it but that has never stopped me before! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I say, Why Not.
Those rifles have a pretty good reputation. 44 Mag is a great plinker and backup hunter also.

definetly go for it. i have two frames and 6 barrels (22hornet, 223, 7mm-08, 308, 243, 45-70) i have shot one in 44 and it was really accurate 2" at 100 yards with peep sights, and worked very reliably.
as a bonus you can send the frame to nef and for 100 or less get a new barrel w/ scope base. i recomend the rimmed rounds 22 hornet,3030, 45-70 becuase i have found their reliability 100% while the rimless 308 based rounds needed some tinkering on the barrel to get proper ejection
30-06 is good for all game from moose to squill

Better to get a marlin lever action 1895 (?). The extra shots come in handy.

Conrad - Been looking at those 1894 Marlins and I do like what I have seen. I could go for one when I find it if the price is right.
257Bob - Yes the Handi rifle and the 1894 would handle 44 spl ammo which would be one of the possible handguns I would be carrying. I love my 3" Taurus, 5-shot 44 spl pistol.

It will have no problem shooting 44 specials.
Actually, I meant to suggest that you get one of the modern marlins i.e. 1895. These are very tough and can shoot the very heavy loads.
I would get one in 45-70 so you have the choice of shooting these bad boys:
GARRETT'S 45-70 AMMO
$50 / 20 CTGS
540-GR SUPER-HARD-CAST GAS-CHECKED HAMMERHEAD AT 1550-FPS
THIS 45-70 AMMUNITION IS RECOMMENDED FOR USE ONLY IN MODERN MARLIN RIFLES.
ENERGY: 2880 FT/LBS; TAYLOR KNOCKOUT VALUE: 55; MEPLAT: .360"; CHAMBER PRESSURE: 35,000-PSI; SECTIONAL DENSITY: .368; TRAJECTORY: +1.5" @ 50-YDS; ZERO @ 100-YDS; -6.5" @ 150-YDS
