Has this thread been forwarded to Cabela's yet??

I bet seeing that a bunch of big spending outdoors people are about to stop spending it with them might just generate a response.

This is now epidemic, it seems. The CC companies are using every dodge to bleed extra drops out of those of us who pay our bills to subsidise those who don't.

I'll bet they are doing the same thing to many others and bolstering the books, accordingly. I recently got rid of a CC company that received and deposited my checks long before due dates, but they posted my payments the day after they were due and charged me heavy penalties. I had one incident where the check was posted and debited 13 days prior to the due date, but it was credited the day after due. It is simply fraud, and they get away with it. mad

I can't say I've been to impressed with Cabelas in general this past year. Our Mitchell, SD store has always been good.

Twice the one in Owatonna, MN has pi$$ed me off. Last time I went about a hundred miles out of my way to go there while on a weekend trip. I called a few weeks earlier to order a archery sight on-line, but was told that phone orders wouldn't do price matching. No big deal I figured, I was headed up towards the Cities in a few weeks and didn't need much of an excuse to go outta my way.

Bring in the add for the sight I found on-line, brought it up to the counter (14.99 difference) and they wouldn't honor it. Now it wasn't some huge difference and the fact I'd gone quite a ways outta my way really upset me and the lady could have cared less.

Few months ago I used their card to make an on-line purchase. Company sent me a part that didn't fit and was supposed to have a 30 day money back guarentee. Well they wouldn't issue me a credit after 3-4 documented attempts at returning the part so I called to cancel the payment.

Cabelas wanted a written statement from a mechanic saying the part did not fit my truck and all this other crap.

Long story longer, I don't use their card either. Don't want to cancel it as I still want their coupons they mail out from time to time.

Dogzapper:

Call your bank and get the ACH number they used to confirm the wire went out. There should be a number that indicates where and when it was sent. This infomration can then be shared with a seperate tracking number that indicates that Cabelas got teh wire and rejected payment. Armed with this info, you should be able to get the penalty and intersst removed.

Sorry to hear that Steve. I've been a loyal Cabelas Visa user, but will watch my back even closer now.

On the same subject, I'll a quick plug for Discover. I'd been a Discover card holder since my freshman year of college. About 8yrs later I was in a rush to get my bill in the mail before leaving for a snow mobile weekend over New Years. In my haste I placed my check in front of the address window, and the USPS took three weeks to route the payment back to me. Naturally the bill was VERY late. I called Discover, explained what happened, and they waved the extra charges and accepted my late payment.

I don't use my Discover card much anymore since I started playing the Cabelas points game. I'll cash out my points and close my account if they screw me like they did Steve.

Steve, they did the exact same thing to me last month with a payment.

I'm thinking they are having some computer problems, but they aren't addressing them well.

I've always had good service with Cabalas Visa, but your recent experiences don't bode well with me. My purchases from Cabalas have really deminished the past 2 years mainly because I could get products, better products for less somewhere else. But every now and then something good goes on sale at Cabalas and I buy. I ALWAYS have the bill paid within the first billing cycle. So with your bad experiences, I will definitely reconsider using their Visa, since apparantly being a good customer is not enough for them.

I have had a Cabela's Visa for about 10 years. NEVER had a problem. Never carried a monthly balance, never even had a late fee. I ONLY use my Cabelas Card. I have gotten most of my reloading supplies for free using my Cabela's points. When I am out of the country, I routinely get called from Cabela's security making sure my charges are legit. I can't say enough good about them. I also got that black card. It's called a signature card. It was for memers who spent a certin dollar amount AND who's account was in good standing. The advantage of the signature card is that when you buy FROM Cabela's you now get 5 points instead to two. My credit line didn't change and the new card came as the old one expired. I was also surprised that no activation was needed.

If that had happened to me, I don't think I would stop at shredding their VISA card. I probably would start shredding their catalogs and stop ordering from them as well.

I too have the new black Signature card from Cabela's and my service has been good for many years but I will be paying closer attention.

I wonder if they use different banks for different types of cards.....the Signature card lists "World's Foremost Bank" as issuer.....that name tells me the Signature VISA is managed by Cabela's themselves.....regardless, they need to addtress your problems....

I haven't found a credit card outfit that does any better...I'd change if I did.

That is precisely what I am doing.

Frankly, the guy on the phone went way over the line and nothing can recall that. I'm gone.

I drove to our local post office and mailed a check that pays them in full for the balance and their trumped-up penalty and interest, plus five dollars.

They can keep my penalty, the interest and close to $100.00 of Cabela's Points.

Am I pissed? Yup.

Oh, by the way, a great deal has been made here about a Cabela's Black Card. My card is black and is imprinted with a photo of me and one of my antelope. As mentioned, "World's Foremost Bank" is the issuer.

My balance varied between $1,000 and $5,000 a month and it was always paid upon receipt in my mail box. I have never carried a balance or paid interest, I simply put a check in the mail or paid electronically on the same day I received the billing from Cabela's.

I feel like I lost a friend ... and I know damned well that Cabela's has.

Steve

My local bank made a big push to involve people in electronic banking. Naturally, the (very attractive) interest rate that they offered on checking for those taking the electronic option has dropped significantly since last year. What annoyed me was that when the bank changed hands (do all banks do that as often as they remodel?) they changed the electronic payment policy. The old policy GUARANTEED payment by the date indicated while the new policy only calls it an approximate payment date (no guarantee).

I agree 100% with and support Steve about being pissed off over this. At the same time, I am waiting for someone to chime in with the time-honored and very helpful suggestion to "start your own card company if you don't like it." frown

Steve,

Theres been a few stories in the British press about credit card company's deleberately trying to loose customers such as you, because by paying promptly, they simply don't make any money from you..In the cases mentioned, the way it was done was virtually identical to what happened to you ie hassle the customer over "missed" payments until they took their business else where..

Food for thought...

Regards,

Peter

For those of you that didn't learn enough about Cabela's during the Jim Zumbo donny brook. Here's strike two the next ones on you I haven't bought item one from them since their last screw up.

Dump that card and get an Airlines card.

Steve, I'd send em the money I owed but absolutely not the penalty and interest no matter what they may threaten. I would send an e-mail with your story including a link to this thread to the board of directors and the customer relations directors of Cabelas. Everyone makes mistakes but in the business world it's how you handle em that matters most. In todays enviornment every customer and every sale matters. Good Luck, Sam

Especially in this business climate, only a moron would blow off a longstanding, high-roller customer with an impeccable payment history over a $50 issue. I feared that going public would be the beginning of the end for Cabelas as we knew it. Only time will tell.

It is rare that I find something of equal quality cheaper at Cabela's. I pay for everything with my card and have a large amount of Cabela's $. I will spend it one day on a new boat or something. smile

I have found the Cabelas store in Lacey washington to have rude employees at the gun counter and only one person working in the gun library that I will ever think of talking to again. I for one when purchasing firearms will not return to that store ever. I was anticipating them when they first arrived but four visits later they have lost my buisness.
