For those out there who happen to shoot a 225 Winchester, has anyone had any luck using the 40 grain bullets in this cartridge. If so, what kind of load have you come up with and what kind of volocities are you getting?

http://www.varminter.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=13577 I think I gave a pretty fair answer there, and won't repeat myself, but I will amend the answer there and add IMR-4064 to the mix, just in case.
You can roll a turd in peanuts, dip it in chocolate, and it still ain't no damn Baby Ruth.

Thanks rats, I never have seen a Winchester in 225 Win. I had an extra 223 Rem in a Ruger No.1 Varminter and had it rechambered to the 225 Win just because I thought I needed one. Would like to get a little more volocity than the 50's are giving me.

It should be great in a Number One, with the semi-rim and all. You probably know it's basically a .219 Donaldson Wasp Improved, or something very similar to that.
It sounds like you've got some interesting toys to play with. Mine are pretty plebian, but I know people with interesting stuff, and they let me hang around.

I am a lover of odd-ball cartridges or anything I don't have. I have a messed up rotory cup in my shoulder and recoil doesn't help me much so I have gotten into varmint rifles because recoil is pretty low profile. Varmint shooting is my first love.

My 225 likes 50gr TNT's and VMax's (4064 or Varget). What do the 40's do that the 50's won't? Or is it just, as you say, something different

More speed and a flatter trajectory.

ph: FWIW, a quick check with my ballistic software says the traj. is pretty much the same to about 400yds, then the 50gr wins. More importantly is has significantly less wind drift. (Started the 40's out at 200fps faster, campared 40 and 50gr Blitzkings)

I knew as soon as I submitted that reply that someone would run it through their software.
